I am planning a last minute trip. Prices are starting at $800 for horrible flight times. Is there any chance that the prices go down a couple days before the flight? I am dieing to go back and I just got the green light for next week but I cant see myself paying a grand for airfare.

It's very hard to get a last-minute flight cheap. Just keep checking the various sites, maybe you'll get lucky.

Try www.kayak.com

I just did a search on www.kayak.com for you:

3/15 to 3/21 ORD to SJO

$626 incl taxes on Mexicana Airlines

Do a search and use flexible dates (up to 3 days before and after each way).

I am an ORD to SJO traveller as well. Prices and flight schedules are horrible. We need to band together and protest. Unbelievable ORD does not have even 1 Non-stop to SJO. This is the busiest (currently second busiest) airport in the US and no nonstops and no decent schedules to a popular destination. Go figure.

TACA flies direct to ElSalvador or Guatemala and then on to SJ one day a week--Tues? Brief layover, you don't even get off the plane--only problem is it leaves Chicago at 0200. the good news is if u can sleep a little, you get to SJ with a whole day in front of u. Return flight is more normal hour, but I forget. Reasonable price. You avoid that Miami stop which is why those flights are $$$$. they fly every day but not with the above schedule.

I have done this one and it is a great flight. But as mentioned it is limited availability. Also, I just got an alert from AA that I can get ORD to BOG or ORD to MDE for $439. Might just be time to take that plunge. And, after reading some recent reports, I might just do it.

Check AA now. Sale is on.
