What is your hotel price range? Claritas is basic @ $70 per night ,Copacabana is nicer @ $125 or so.Villas Estrellamar is very nice $125-130 ,I think . Check these out , they all have web sites.Cab service readily available.

Cateye: Do a search or srcoll thru the hotel postings as this has been covered extensively before. Enjoy yourself. I will be back in Jaco just for 2 days in 2 weeks. It should be an outdoor sauna. Wile Coyote

I just returned after spending three days in Jaco, and while I have a number of thisgs to report on, let me comment on the two hotals I stayed at.

I found the Copa to be a very nice place to stay. The rooms are nice and clean, albeit a little small, and you have all the usual amenities (AC, fan, TV, refridge). You can walk right out onto the beach from the reception desk. The pool area was very nice and clean with space to lounge and soak up the sun. The Canciones Del Mar, right next door on the beach, is a very beautiful, quiet place to kick back and read a book or snooze. The pool, while good sized, was a little cloudy. The rooms are HUGE, with a full kitchen, livingroom area, patio, and seperate bedroom.

There seems to be two diametrically opposed attitudes between the two hotels. The Copa has more of a fraternity atmosphere with a bunch of like-minded guys hanging out, drinking at the bar, taking chicas back to the restaurant or listening to the live band. I was hanging out at the bar after having sessioned with a BB babe, listening to the music, when I looked over to see a group of guys sitting at a table passing around a fat joint. I was a little surprised to see this. The bartender walked over to them and brought them an ashtray. The Canciones, on the other hand, was very quiet at night. Interestingly, there were two "bar-type" areas around the pool, but I was informed that the bar closes at 2PM. The guests appeared to be mainly families w/ K*ds and Eurotourists. My wingman ended up walking his chica past a family having dinner out on their patio.

There has been some discussion regarding the walk back from the BB to the Copa being potentially rather dicey. I didn't notice any problems with trannies/addicts hassling anybody but I did take a cab back from the BB for convenience sake. One thing I did notice, however, was the road to the Canciones was MUCH more concerning. It's quite a bit darker and it seems like there were more people just hanging out on the beach outside of the hotel entrance. I walked back to the BB around midnight alone and felt that people were watching me. Also, every house on that road has its own guard dog that would go nuts when you walked past. There was no way to stealthily walk down that road as every dog announced your progress toward the main road.

While the Copa had someone at the reception desk 24 hours, the Canciones basically shuts down at 8PM. I was a little surprised to see an old guy with a billy club providing security.

Both hotels were quite nice but I would definitely choose the Copa for all future mongering activities in Jaco. It's just set up better for the things were interested in doing.

We had a small issue on that BB to Copa walk of shame in 2005. See the link below. Eight of us will be back at the Copa on March 14 and 15 and will be be taking taxis at night. Wile Coyote
