Just a quick question.

Im trying to stick with my airline FF programs, and am going with the oneworld group for now; or until I get my free flight soon enough. Anyways, Im looking to book a flight from my hometown to LAX, and I have a couple options.

Both Air Canada and American Airlines have schedules that work to my liking, both are about the same price with Air Canada being slightly cheaper. None the less I want to do the AA route.

Anyways, if I were to book way out, Id obviously be getting a worse rate then if I booked say 1 month before departure or even 2 months before departure. The thing is , I kind of want this to be super concrete before I take off, so I can sit back and not have to stare at airline fares for the next billion months.

With that being said, I know the flight normally goes in the 400$ range, but right now its posting around 650$. If I was to book on AA right now, do they have any kind of "if you see this flight posted for cheaper, we'll match that price" type thing? Can I book now, and theyll somehow readjust the fare when it gets closer or something? Seems kind of weird, but I remember on some forum a guy was saying he always books his flights whenever and then they just adjust the fare, but I dont see how that makes sense.

Any advice, or infos. The thing is, its a domestic flight, so it will never be totally sold out ( chances are ), and the price gets cheaper as you get closer normally. Should I just hold off and wait it out or what?

According to RBC100, if you book with AA directly, they will credit you if the price drops later on.

I fly AA all the time and noticed that the fares are less way out rather than short notice lately. I booked a flight to CR in April and its about $500 rt. AA will give you a credit it fares drop, but I think the base rate of $460 plus tax is good. This same fare can reach $900. Suggest just booking the flight early and then the Hotel. I have found lately that the hotels are harder to get.

I have gotten credit numerous times when fares dropped on AA. You have to call and ask for it but has never been questioned. It does have to be for the same itenerary.rbc100

Call American's FF desk and get the answer from the horse's mouth. 1-800-882-8880.

Same here.

I fly AA 10 - 12 times per year, and most of my flights are booked (at least) 6 months in advance. By January, I've already got most, if not all, of my flights booked for the entire year. About 1/2 of my flights are free, using FF miles, and the others are paid flights.

If AA drops the price on any of my paid flights, I simply call them, and they credit me the difference. I have done this 7 times over the past 3 years with no problems. Not sure about the other airlines' policies, but AA works for me.

This is another reason why I don't get stressed out with crazy airfares. Because I know, ultimately, that I'm going to fly for the cheapest possible fare offered, regardless of when I book (or booked) that flight. YMMV.

So with that being said.

I could book a fare right now for 600$, which I know is as high as it will go, and then wait until say June and then call them up and say "Hey, its 400$ now" and theyll credit me 200$? No time limits or anything?

In the end Ill call the FF department to get their side of the story, but I like to hear horror stories from the peoples before I even attempt that.

Jamac, There is a time limit to use the credit. I forget if it is a year from booking or a year from date of travel. Someone else may recall.rbc100

I think AA has the best refund policy on paid flights. I booked AA last July for Sept. Cost $1377.00 First Class. Rate dropped 2 weeks before the trip to $603.00 I called and got credit for the difference.
