PHUCKING AYE. LESS THAN $200 TOTAL INCLUDING TAXES OUT OF FORT LAUDERDALE. MAY 24TH TO MAY 31ST..HAHAHAHAHA

ps...no more 8 cents fares left. now the best is $64 each way plus tax, still under $200 round trip.

about $300 round trip out of DC.

this airline is famous for 8 cent fares on differnt dates, destinations.....sometimes you can get one or both legs at 8 cents if you act quick.

I think you can possibly get dates for september/labor day for less than $200 out of Fort Lauderdale.

thanks for the tip Thespy

Thanks for the heads-up. I just booked Memorial Day for 8 days. Total cost $188 w/tax.

right now, apparently no more 8 cents fares left. but, Spirit Air does have promotions for 8 cent fares for short periods.

my buddy was on their email notification list but even then he did not act fast enough for the 8 cent legs.

often, when taking advantage of the discounts, you can only get the 8 cent fare for half the trip and pay the regular for the other half.

however, at about 64 dollars each way, it is still a bargain for me in comparison to other airlines.

Spirit does fly out of other north american airports, so I would keep a lookout for discounts from your area for future sales.

they are expanding and may put pressure on the other airlines to match and/or discount thier fares.

the past couple of years, I have seen American and US Air get into discount wars out of the DC and Philly areas resulting in round trips as low as approx $225 from those airports.

I do not mind paying 200 round trip, even 300, but when they start asking 400+ out of florida and more out of airports further north/west, I start looking at other destinations/fare sales.

This is awesome news for us Florida residents. Here's confirmation on Spirit Airline's prices, in today's paper:

Low-price airline says it will begin service April 5
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

Spirit Airline, a U.S. low-priced airline, said Tuesday that it will begin service three days a week between Juan Santamaría airport in Alajuela and its hub in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, April 5. The company said it expected to make the service daily May 23.

The airline, which began in 1992 as Charter One, is offering 8-cent promotion flights on tickets purchased before midnight today. It also is offering $69 promotion fares until midnight Feb. 7.

Spirit has 33 destinations in the United States and Latin America. The airline uses a fleet of Airbus aircraft. It's departure time at Juan Santamaría is expected to be 12:45 p.m. with arrival in Florida at 5:30 p.m. local time. The return trip will leave at 11:15 a.m. and arrive in San José at noon. The flight is about two hours and 45 minutes. In April there will be a two-hour time difference between San José and Florida.

I just booked San Jose to Fort Lauderdale on april 26 for $187.92 round trip non stop.

Sure beats the $ 457 I was going to pay.

Landing in FL sure beats landing in Miami.

Thespy,
This is a great find! Good job. IMO, everyone should add Spirit to their address book, and get on their e-mail list. The following are Spirit Airline's destinations (from their website):

Aguadilla Atlanta Atlantic City Boston Cancun Chicago Detroit Fort Lauderdale Fort Myers Grand Cayman Grand Turk Kingston Las Vegas Los Angeles Montego Bay Myrtle Beach Nassau New York Orlando Port-au-Prince Providence Providenciales Punta Cana San Francisco San Jose San Juan San Salvador
Santo Domingo St. Maarten St. Thomas Tampa Washington DC West Palm Beach

Mucho Gusto

This looks like a good deal for those living in or close to Fla. Out of NY, connecting thru FLL, it's $500-700RT depending on the date.

I was thinking about taking JetBlue to FLL then Spirit to SJO, but looks like JetBlue has increased their $69-79 fares to FLL, it's now $99+ each way, so it wouldn't be worth it, especially since the times don't match up well so they'd be a long layover. I'll just pay $425-475 and fly Taca non-stop.

Sadly, nothing to/from MSP.

I just checked fares on Delta RT MSP<--->SJO. Lowest price for Memorial Day weekend is $620.00. Labor Day? Who knows?

You Texas and Florida boys really have it tough, as do you New Yorkers... my little heart pumps with sympathy. Aw...too bad... you have to pay $400.00 to go to Paradise. I really feel for you, you pricks. :P  :P

Oh well, it looks like I have enough Delta miles to get a free flight...so who knows?

They will be flying out of Myrtle Beach , SC starting Apirl 5th connecting in Ft. Lauderdale on Mondays, Thursdays & Saturdays.

Looks like about $475 ( taxes included) roundtrip as of now. I would imagine they will run some specials at some point.

Now if they would just fly out of RDU!!

Thank you SpiritAir :!: :!: :!:

I got lucky from FLL to SJO Apr 12 to Apr 16 for $124 round trip...
also May 24 to May 30 for $187 RT...
AND Aug 26 to Sep 5 for $187 RT

These fares are going fast. Most of them will start at $64 but after a few days they jump to $110 and then $130 each way.
If you know your travel dates, I suggest that you book your ticket as soon as possible to get the best fares.

Their website is very efficient and easy to navigate. I only hope that their service in the air is as good.
