I am heading down this Superbowl weekend and my choice of hotels are the Sportsman at $69 or the Del Rey at $80. Both are standard rooms. So the question is what do I choose. Another note is that the Sportsman has the party on Sunday but I dont want to pay the $50 for beer and food so I assume that Bill is going to ask me to leave when the event begins.
Give me your comments and dont mention the Presidente since they are all full with a waiting list.

Go ahead and make that reservation at the Del Rey where the fun is 24/7.

The bar at the Sportsman's Lodge shuts down about midnight.

Besides, without that wristband you will not be welcome at the party because you did not pay your $50.

Latravelnut,
You're headed down THIS WEEKEND ? And you haven't made a hotel reservation yet? Are you sure that there are still vacancies at the SL and/or Del Rey ? You might want to check. I'm pretty sure that SL is sold out this weekend, but not sure about HDR. Good luck.

The bar at the SL shuts down when there are few patrons. Midnite is the scheduled time. If there are people drinking it stays open to make $$$$$. I've seen it open past 1AM.

I thought about it and decided to go with the Del Rey Hotel. There were 2 rooms available this morning. One after I booked. I'm the last minute guy and always book the air before the hotel. The reason is that since I live in LA, there is only a few months where American does a non-stop to San Jose. December to March for the non-stop otherwise I have to go through Miami which makes it a 11 hour ordeal rather than only 5 hours.
Pricing is about the same so you get my point. I usually stay at the Presidente but they are always booked and have this long waiting list. They aren't the best hotel for last minute and there isn't a toll free number.

For future visitors, if you want a really nice quiet low key place withing walking distance of everything, take SL or Castillo. If you want action, hype, noise and a frat environment pick HDR or Presidente. The choice is personality based, after all, it's all in the gulch!

I've made three trips to SJ in the last year and stayed at the HDR the first two. Although the action is right there, the $10 chica fee finally got to me. They really do, as someone had mentioned, nickel and dime you to death. I don't plan on staying there again. It cost much less to take a taxi with your chica back to your hotel.

I'd throw Hotel Castillo into the mix. I recently stayed in one of their deluxe rooms and was very satisfied. Darren, the owner, is a really good guy. They just opened a bar on site and it is very close to Zona Blue. I'd rather have sexo with ZB girls over Del Rey girls anytime.

If I was an intenet millionaire, I'd book a grand suite on a Regent or Chrystal Line Cruise ship. then, I'd pay for a couple of fine CR Ticas to join me for a 10 day cruise. The looks of the faces of the old geezer tourists when we entered the dining room or went poolside wouuld be priceless.

I would be inclined to use my funds in a risk free 07 SuperBowl internet wager. Probably would be placed from the Heartland USA to a Costa Rican Sport Book. No worries, its only money and freedom...

Cant go wrong with the Castillo...YMMV

In that circumstance, I'd probably try Hotel M, since I've never been there and am curious. If I didn't like it, I could afford to move somewhere else. With that kind of cash, hotels have a way of not being full anymore.
