All,

AA and I think (UA) now have DIRECT flights to SJO from LAX. You can take the redeye to CR and then jump on a morning flight back. Here are the AA flights:

To SJO - flight 927 leaves at 11:55 PM
To LAX - flight 938 leavs 9:05 AM

Booked a little way out... flights are around $530 roundtrip.

GR - I thought you might like this. No pit-stop in Guatemala.

living in san diego this flight is very attractive plus I get frequent fliey miles that I cant get I dont think on the costa rica airlines that flies out of lax.

My only question is it arrives so early in sjo even whith all the airport bs you got to be too the hotels pretty early.

Iam planning my first trip and this is the flight I want how early will the presidente let you check in.

Myself and two wingmen on that flight..to and from. We leave Feb 1, and are heading back the 7th. If by some chance thoses are your fly dates, look us up at the gate and we will buy you drinks and you can tell us good stories. This is our first trip to CR

Post subject:  The correct terminology is "NON-STOP"

Direct flights are defined as a flight which has the same flight number but will stop somewhere in between. I have been on the LA flights aout 20 times starting with its innagural flight in 2004. The Presidente has never let me check in early, but I have been able to steal a free breakfast many times.

It is hit or miss (mostly miss) as far as checking in early at the Presidente. I have done it as early as 9am if they have empty clean rooms but more often than not I have waited past 1pm. I just check my bags with the bellman, grab a bite to eat and head over to one of the massage parlors.

The Dungeon is a good bet for the early morning first nut of your trip. For 30 minutes it cost 6000 colones and helps clear out the cobwebs and takes the "edge off" so you are better prepared for the remainder of the day.

Ooohh Boy - another airline out of the west coast. Since United dropped their flight (they now codeshare with Lacsa), and America West cut down to one day per week, it has been pretty slim pickings. More airlines means lower prices. Ahhh, I remember those days not so long ago when we could RT from SAN to SJO for under $400.

As for arriving early, don't worry too much about it. By the time you get through customs, catch a taxi to town, etc., it could be close to 9am. In the past, the Sportsman and the Prez have been kind enough to lock my bags up while I wander around the city. Then I return to the hotel after 1pm or so and check into the room. I take a short nap (those red-eyes get to me) and I'm ready to meet VB at Happy Hour.

Sometimes it is a deal to get to SJO in spite of seeming high.

I just checked fares nonstop from Atlanta to Saint Louis, Missouri.
$490 on both Delta and American unless I drive to Birmingham in which case it about half.
It is only $360 if I change planes and misplace luggage in Detriot.

AirTran where are you when I need you?
