Has anybody been there lately? I have a Jr Suite for Feb 15-20 and never been there before. The Balmoral has rooms but both the Pres and the DR are booked solid, as are ZB and SL. I am used to staying at the Pres or DR. Since I have never been there before and after the search of this site I am kinda leery of staying there. But there has not been any recent info posted. (Maybe that should tell me something) any suggestions or current info is greatly appreciated.

Hotel Costa Rica Morazan is my favorite. Just spent 8 days there. (Also spent 2 nites at the Pres). Most guests are mongers. No charge for 1 chica, $10 for two (I think this is new, but I saw it enforced).

The desk keeps the chica's ID until you both leave. If she leaves alone, the desk calls your room for an OK.

Casino is used mostly by local Chinese. Good exchange rate at the money changing cage. The 24 hour bar and rest is mostly Tico, but is convenient. Lunch buffet is C1600 for a lot of food and a fruit juice.

Don't worry, you'll enjoy it. :!:

LawDawg:

I spent a night there in June of 2006. No complaints. The price was right, good location and the room was comfortable.

Had a great, great time there. Not luxurious, but very good for the price. And the location is excellent.

just call them...506-222-4622 or www.costaricamorazan.com
also before you check in get a copy of the "tico times" for a coupon...may save you some money....also 2 things that might help you...at about 12.00 to 1:30 you will find about 10to 15 (total) have the cheap lunch buffet there ...so at least take a peek inside ....also when coming in the hotel after 6.00pm always look at what is sitting at the bar ...you never know you might get a non -pro !!! drinks are cheap at that bar ....and out of maybe the 7or 8 times where i just sat and drank...i had girls coming on to me !! pro and non pro....also i always check that little couch in front of the front desk late at nite and have had some good luck there!!! dont ever eat there !!! no matter what !!!

Stayed there one night. It was OK, but the price is comparable to the DR or Prez, and the Morazon was not nearly as nice. The construction is crappy, and the bathroom was built by someone who did not know what they were doing. (Their attitude was, when in doubt, CAULK!)

I would stay there again, but only if the Prea, DR, SL and HM were full. (Yes, I would pay the HM rates NOT to stay there.)

One warning: DO NOT use the online reservations you find on the web, as others have warned. Call or email them directly. If you use the online service, they will check you in fine with the prepaid online reservation, but when you check out they want you to pay again, and will say that the online payment has not been received. I refused, and showed them the online payment confirmation, and told them that I would charge back anything they put on my card. Further, I said I would be at the Prez for the next three nights if they wanted to reach me. Nothing happened.

Before moving here to CR,I always stayed at the Morazan Hotel on the 5th floor in their Jr suites. (Rooms 501 and 505 were my favorites.) The food and service sucks BUT the Jr suites were great for what I used to pay for them. ($50-60/night) Perfect location and hassle free enjoyment with the chicas from the DR. The regular rooms are VERY SMALL,so I don't recommend an extended stay in one of them.

I feel a lot better about staying there than I did before. I was just a little hesitant about the place since I had never been there before and the hotel doesn't come up on the forum very often, eventhough it is closer than the pres to the DR.
Thanks again for the replies.

I stay there on all my trips about 5 a year. Like VB said the JR. Suites are fine. I always stay in 501 but have stayed in all of them on the 5 floor. I have one booked for the 15-19 so I will probably be bumping into you there.

i booked at this hotel from 02/08 through 02/12. double room with tax is $80. Jr suite was $103 all-in. Reservations told me the only difference was the double had 2 queens and the suite had a King and was much larger. I took the double queens. Don't know if this is a good price as this is my first trip.

Javier (reservation guy) told me this is a very good location for mongering. Hope that is true. He told me the cab fare from the airport to the hotel is US $12. That seems kinda high from what I've been reading here. At 520 colones to the dollar, what is a reasonable fare using the Maria?

Any suggestions/tips/clues wll be very much appreciated. 10 days to go! :D

Hotel is in a great location. 1 block west of the Del Rey, 1 Block north of the Presidente (& the pedestrian walkway avenida central) same block as the Key Largo, block away from the NYB and 2 blocks to Costa Del Sol or Mariscar chicken restaurant.

Taxi fare from the airport is now $18.00. The airport cabs are flat rated no maria is used.

$80 for the Morazan? Damn!!! Location, location, location I guess.

It's only $70 at Amon Plaza if you book thru Nixon. The rooms are big, the service is good, and the breakfast is above average, IMO.

I stayed in a "regular" room last Memorial Day (literally a last minute change when they closed Amon Plaza) and it was around $60 a night.

Clean, hot water, mini-fridge, color TV, working A/C and phone and 1 block from the Del Rey. It served it's purpose.
