Post subject:  First trip to CR....HDR question

What's going on guys?
I am planning my first trip from Dec 14 - 19th. From what I am reading, HDR is the place to go for a first timer. I researched the hotel and read some post and I can see why. Thing is that I am reading a lot of complaints about noise, smoke and all of that. So I might want to stay at HDR for two nights and then move to another spot where I can rest at night. Besides going for the Ticas, I am also going to do some jungle tourism stuff, so maybe at the end of the day I might want to rest a bit.

Plan: Stay at the HDR Thursday, Friday. Go somewhere else Sunday - Tuesday.

Any recommendations?

I was looking into SL because it’s frequented by a lot of your guys. What do you guys think about the SL?

Since the SL is so small, it might be booked, what other places are quiet and not too far from the action?

Your trip is so short in duration, that you don't have time to be switching hotels and learning how to find your way around. Your best bet is to stay at ' The Rey" and sleep as best you can.

Your first trip....you have 5 nights.

Forget about getting rest at night. You can do that before you get here and after you leave.

Stay at the HDR, phuck your brains out, party till you drop, go home exhausted

and start

PLANING YOUR NEXT TRIP

I have to agree with Irish Drifter. Go there and have fun. I stayed at the Del Rey for my first trip and in the 3 nights I was there I got a total of 7 hours sleep and I felt great. Slept on the plane back home to NJ.

I think you have the idea right in the first place Mr Lopez. The HDR is a good spot to get your feet wet. You are in the belly of the beast and it is nice and easy to bring a chica up to your room but after a couple of days you will have your bearings and you also will be tired off shelling out $10 a pop for having the luxery of bringing a chica up to your room. I would do exactly what you were thinking in the first place, start out there and then move to the SL

Enjoy

Mr Lopez:

I would encourage you to spend your five days at the Del Rey.
As long as you stay off the second floor and the front portion of the third floor noise is not much of a factor at all. I have stayed on the second floor using earplugs and had a very good nights sleep. As far as smoke have never known to be a factor anywhere. Take into consideration that I spent a lot of time in bars and have a very high tolerance for smoke.

The Del Ray gets a lot of flack for various things but as has been mentioned at the end of the day you have a room that you can sleep in and secure your belongings and that is only feet away from a couple hundred of the reasons you're going to San Jose in the first place. And for visitors not familiar with nightlife in San Jose and the perils of being out on the street late at night you get to play in a very secure environment.
As always just my opinion. And for truth in advertising purposes I am a Del Rey junkie.

I agree with the crew; Hotel Del Rey is priceless for a first vist. Just make sure to check out the MPs and night spots for variety.

I've never stayed at the del Rey, but I will tell you this:

Moving hotels in the middle of a short trip is worthless. You waste a couple hours checking out of the first, and an hour or more checking in to the second.

Friends who've stayed at HDR completely agree that the higher floors, away from the street/casino are fairly quiet, and the higher you get, the less problematic the smoke will be.

The $10.00/visitor is manageable if you ony monger once per day. Otherwise, it can add up. Even so, I'd do the HDR for a first visit, if I had it to do over again.

I agree with everybody about your limited time there and changing hotels, but here is a option, the Sleep Inn behind the HDR is great is new and a very nice hotel, standards are up to hotels in the states, just keep in mind that the chica fee is $25, this is because this more of a tourist hotel, thus the quite and relaxing evenings....

Sleep Inn is very pricey.

Room $85.00* (standard room in Dec. $100.00* in January)
Tax $13.93
Chica $25.00
Fee ______
Total $123.93 per night in December
$141.39 per night in January

*room rates from expedia.com

You are correct Irish Drifter, the Sleep Inn is a bit pricey (I payed $79.00 a night), but for a nice quite quality hotel, IMHO this is the best one, I really enjoyed my stay there and will probably stay there again, the only down fall of this place is the chica fee. The chica fees can and did add up quick when your pulling down a day and a night chica. It is not for every one, if you are not to concerened about the price, this is the place.
