Found a flight in January for $538 USD tax in from Buffalo to SJO, but have never flown this airline. This is about $600 CAD, so it would be a pretty good deal for me, since I live approximately equidistant from both Toronto & Buffalo. Has anybody flown on this airline, & if so, how was it?

Thanks,
Bobzilla

Good airline. It's the only one I use because it goes into SJO non-stop Daily from Charlotte.

I like USAIRWAYS. It's the airline I usually use. Several weeks ago, I got a January/February flight for $430.00 TOTAL, R/T from WASH/DULLES. One stop each way in Charlotte.

Their hub in Charlotte is a nice airport. Coming home last July, our flight was delayed because of a bad storm. I ended up sleeping on the floor of the Charlotte airport, under an escalator, with a nice family from Costa Rica who had come to the U.S. to visit relatives in D.C.

Thanks for the comments guys. My other big concern is flying out of Buffalo in January. Although I live north of Buffalo, they usually get more snow than we do.

Just to let anyone in the area know, I found a cheaper flight using dates a week after my original dates: $429 USD return from BUF the 3rd week of January....that's a hell of a deal!

Same here....$420 round trip thru Charlotte in January. Best deal I've noticed in a couple months. AA and Delta still want over $600 from my location.

I just did a search on US Air and noticed that the base fare is only $325 + $65 fuel surcharge for a fare of $390 plus taxes.

I can do better than $460 by going with the non-stop 4.5 hour Taca flight.

The fees:
Tax: US International Arrival $14.50
Tax: US International Departure $14.50
Fee: US Immigration $7.00
Fee: US Animal & Plant Health Inspection Svc. $5.00
Fee: US Customs User $5.00
Fee: US Passenger Facility Charge $10.50
September 11 Security Fee $7.50

Someone has to pay for those TSA idiots sleeping on the job.

US Air merged with America West a while back. They have not completely intergrated services.
America West was my favorite airline period. I used it to fly to California with a stop either in Phoenix or Las Vegas both ways. I have not flown them recently but their fares were fair and the service was friendly. And they were on time.

I hope that continues.

I guess I am the only one that has had a negative experience with US Airways. Theyve cancelled 2 of the 3 flights Ive booked with them. End result they stuck me on United both times, but still having your flight cancelled isnt the most exciting thing in the world.

USAIRWAYS has been my "main squeeze" since 1993. Since I fly out of PHL, there always were a number of attractive options available to me. I have been a "preferred dividend miles" card-holder for the past three years and really enjoy the frequent upgrades. I had only one negative experience with them in January 2005. When my plane arrived in PHL from SJO, there were no baggage handlers available to unload the luggage.

Since the merger with USAIRWAYS, the new corporation's P/L improved, however, I've noticed a tightening of Dividend Miles rules...and the prices are no longer as competitive as they were a year or two ago. USAIRWAYS also terminated its non-stop PHL-SJO service earlier this year. (It was the only non-stop to SJO from PHL.) For these reasons, I am turning to Continental and AA for flights to Central America, the Caribbean and Europe. With better routes and competitive pricing, I also book more flights out of EWR now than I have in the past.

UNITED also had a non-stop from WASH/DULLES to San Jose. It was great...a little over 4 hours. I last took this flight about 2 years ago for $250.00 total, R/T. It was great. :D As far as I can tell, UNITED no longer has a non-stop flight. :(

I have had the best luck with Continental. USAirways is nice because the flight departs SJO in the afternoon, so there's actually time to do something in the morning prior to the flight. However, of the half dozen or so times I've flown on USAirways to SJO, I got bumped twice.
