Post subject:  Sharing AA miles

Has anybody had any experience with Share Miles on AA.com?

My brother has about 20,000 miles he accrued on his CC that he'll never use, so I was going to have him transfer it to my account because I can certainly use them.

It seems that they charge an pretty hefty fee + another processing fee + taxes on top of that.

#of miles-----------cost*
1,000-5,000------$50.00
6,000-10,000----$100.00
11,000-15,000---$150.00

* Prices listed above are in U.S. dollars and do not include applicable taxes or $30 per transaction processing fee.

What a ripoff IMO!!!. (OK, I know nothing is free, but how about a $25 processing fee or something. Afterall, I'm not buying the miles, they've already been earned.) AIRLINES SUCK!

BTW, if I then use the miles after I transfer them, I guarantee that they would make me pay the "taxes" AGAIN. :x

Sort of goes hand in hand with AA charging $100 to change a reservation when Delta charges $50.

They also charge for redepositing FF miles back into your account if you cancel your reservation. I don't know the fees for others but Delta charges $50 for that "service", too, which consists of a view keystrokes.

Orange,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that your brother can get online AA.com, and use his Rewards Miles by making a round trip reservation (using HIS miles) in YOUR name, with a minimal fee.

In 2004, I had to burn up 200,000 miles, so I booked all six flights (for me and 5 wingmen) on AA.com, using 35,000 miles per ticket. If memory serves, it was only about $20 per ticket.

I've never tried to "transfer" miles between AA accounts. I think that's a little different than the above scenario.

Good luck.

Dude, if the airlines made it easy or cheap to pass these reward miles around, people might Actually Use Them!

there is no money for them when people fly using these miles and they are going to make some money one way or another. :?
