Executive Suite at Casa Vino: This Wine is Sweet
Okay, in fairness the reader should know the following:
The reviewer is blind, so all visual references are second hand.
I received four nights in the suite as a gift from the owner, CasaV here on CRT. Now, I am the kind of guy who likes to be brutally honest, and even a gift of this magnitude wouldn’t prevent me from letting you know anything bad about Casa Vino.
Fortunately, in that regard I’ve got nothing to report. Everything is pretty freaking cool!
The location is a thing of beauty. Literally sixteen steps (I counted) from the front door to the Paraiso Casino. Around the corner from Zona Blue. Two blocks down the hill from New Fantasy. A two minute ride to Sportsmen’s Lodge or a brisk five minute walk. Finding a taxi is a snap; taxis are readily available at the Amon Plaza next door 24/7.
The neighborhood is pretty tranquilo, although at night the travesties come out to play, along with other unsavory types.
Fortunately, the steel outer gate keeps the boogiegirls away and the apartment feels very secure.
The entryway is lit and ventilated by a ceiling fan. The entry hallway is also the place from which you can enter the smaller apartment, if its occupant has unlatched the lock from his side. In fact, I’m seated at a writing desk just inside the entryway. No Internet, which feels very good to me right now. If I get a bad itch to check CRT or my e-mail, I can always take the talking computer next door, buy lunch and hop onto Amon Plaza’s wireless network.
The kitchen is fairly well-equipped with a variety of dish and glassware, table and cooking utensils, a microwave, a toaster oven and a coffeemaker. The housekeeper keeps the kitchen as spotlessly clean as the rest of the house. In fact, cleaning Casa Vino is a moonlighting job for the ama de llaves (head of housekeeping) for the Casino Hotel Morazan.
Between the kitchen and stairway to the upper floor is a small table and chairs for four.
Now to the fun part…the upstairs. Tony installed super secure steel handrails at the side of the stairs. The steps are a bit irregular, so even the seeing will find the rails a good safety feature.
A ceramic tiled countertop and a minifridge make up the upstairs wet bar. Ice bucket and tongs are provided. I actually like this sink better than the one in the kitchen The fridge is what we used to call a dorm cube but could hold a twelve pack and some small bottles of mixer and/or snacks.
The sectional seating area is super comfortable amd will easily seat four people without crowding. . For ventilation there’s a 3-speed wall mounted oscillating fan. The exit to the small balcony is narrow and is fitted with its own porton duro (security gate). I was told the view is pretty good.
Whether you watch porno in DVD or VHS, the ceiling mounted player which feeds the projector TV can handle it. I never used the projector, but you sighted guys will probably love it. I was able to enjoy the stereo, however. For a little all-in-one, it provides excellent sound quality. My new amigovia Carla really enjoyed listening to my “Magic Ciego†CD while I jammed a big dildo into… oh, never mind.
Double sliding doors lead into the bedroom and bath. The bedroom is spacious with plenty of storage. In the ropera (armoire) is the digital eypad locked strongbox, an iron should you need to freshen your clothes, and plenty of hangers The bed is queen size and very comfortable. The remote-controlled air conditioner is efficient and quiet, although I seldom used it while staying at Casa Vino. The base station for the cordless phones features an answering machine with three voicemail boxes for your convenience.
Ah! The steam shower! Every girl I brought back absolutely loved the “vapor.†It works great, and within minutes you’ll be enveloped in a cloud of hot steam. I’ve now been here three nights and have used it daily. I firmly believe the steam shower has saved my sorry ass from a couple of bad hangovers.
Problems? Well, traffic noise from Avenida 9 is constant and loud. If you’re a city boy like me this noise will serve as a pleasant lullabye. If not, you might find it bothersome.
Like many older buildings in San Jose, there really aren’t enough electrical outlets, although the wiring in Casa Vino has been updated, probably to support the heaters in the steam shower. I never did find the bombilla (light switch) to turn off the fan and light in the entryway. Also, there are a couple extension cord octopuses in the kitchen and to serve the sound and video systems in the living room.
Speaking of luz, the ceiling lighting in both the living room and bedroom is very attractive and provides excellent illumination.
This suite is an extraordinary bargain, IMHO. While it lacks some amenities found in hotels, it includes many others that are rarely found in hotels for under $250.00 per room night. Everything is clean and in pretty good repair. It’s nice to be able to prepare food for yourself, have two refrigerators for your drinkables (BTW, the freezer makes ice in about 4 hours, a good sign). Cordless phones on both levels keep you connected. The lack of Internet access however may bother some.
At retail this suite is a good value, but with the 20% CRT VIP discount, it’s a real bargain. Would I pay to stay here again? You bet!
This is a great place, and the chicas dig it. This is the kind of place I would have set up for myself in college had I the budget back then. It is indeed a swingin’ bachelor pad. Yeah, this wine is pretty freaking sweet. Thanks Tony!
