Post subject:  Local Calls from the Presidente

I had a big surprise on my la cuenta upon checkout, over 12k for local calls. 24 bucks! WTF? I complained but the clerk said it was correct. Just figured it up- That's .65 cents/minute I was charged plus tax = .73/min. for LOCAL calls! Must be new policy, I've never had more than a few bucks on the bill for calls, so buyer beware.

I will email them to double check and make sure this wasn't a mistake, and post a follow-up. Hopefully it was.

Pretty typical for CR. Many Gringos I hear this common complaint. I don't call much of anyone anyway so it has never been much of a problem for me. Just so many ways to say I love you anyway    .

Well what do you know, just recieved the following email from the hotel. I asked the desk clerk upon checkout how this could be correct and was simply told that was the correct charges for the calls from my room and he printed out the details of the calls for me, (which was really no help.)
Quote:
Dear Senor Paco:

We reviewed your bill and found a rather large error with your telephone charges.
We recently invested on a new telephone central for the Hotel, complete with the latest billing software.
We discovered that the settings for local calls are correct, but for some reason unknown to us, the calls made to cellular telephones are being highly overcharged. It is normal that a call to a cellular telephone be more expensive than a call to a land line, but not much.
Please find attached the detail of calls made to and from your room on the dates of your stay. If you estimate the cost of the call made to ESCAZU (land line), it comes up to approximately $0,10 per minute, while the calls made to cellular telephones are ringing close to $0,65 per minute plus taxes, as you pointed out.
This is definitely a mistake, and I thank you very much for pointing it out so we can correct it ASAP.
I can assure you that the equipment will be fixed and the charges credited to your next stay, or if you prefer, credited to your credit card.
At your service.

Well there you go, hope all you guys at the hotel appreciate me saving you a fortune on your local calls, (and Levitra.)

Wow that's something new - the calls were free when I was there in July. Nice investment they made. Thanks for the heads up Paco

I don't think so PR, check your bill- I've had local telephone charges on my bill for the last couple years staying there but it's usually less than a few bucks per stay.
There is no charge for using my ATT calling card 1-800 number to call the states, just local calls.

Hey I think we've finally stumbled onto one advantage of having limited spanish- it keeps your phone bill low. :D

On another topic- I saw a sign (somewhere) for cell phones for rent by the day/week, anyone done this or know the pricing? :?

I have my bill in front of me - I was there Jul 11 - 14 - News Cafe, Tarifa Habitacion and Tax that's it. No phone charges - and I used the phone quite a bit - and my 800 Cognitel # as well.

I was there in June and I recall there weren't any charges then as well. Don't know. :?: :?:
