Hey guys, as you may know I am going to CR Sept 14 - 21st. Originally I got a room and still have it reserved at Prez, but after reading some of the rants on the thread about their policy I am reconsidering. I really want to monger and be able to enjoy my mongering. So I am thinking of changing my stay to SL. What do you guys recommend, I would really appreciate the vets opinions. Oh and I would like to get a Jacuzzi room so I can eh uhmm have some extra fun. The only thing I have concern is how far is SL from the MP and DR? and is the band that noisy in all the hotel so you cant get any sleep?

Thanks guys, I just dotnt want to waste my money.

I would definitely stay at the SL. I would recommend thge room Ilusion if you want a Jacuzzi.

The band issue does exist, but Bill has and will continue to make every effort to make sure your stay is a pleasant one.

Noise issue is usually only a couple of hours between 7 and 10 PM and not every night. If you just make sure the double doors leading to the new wing are closed you will have no problems with the noise.

As far as the chica policy, there is no issue for you to be concerned about, no limits.....As far as distance from DR, BM, KL. about 4 -5 blocks, Zona Blue is about the same, New Fantasy is closer, about 3 blocks.

Haven't booked a stay at the SL, but I have been to the Prez. Absolutely loved it. The girls are generally prepared for the dress code. Clean rooms, great AC, Very quiet. Very nice.

I think it is more a matter of personal preference than anything else. They are somewhat different kinds of places. I would classify the Sportsmans as more like a frat house atmosphere with every thing on site where with all hobbyists where the Presidente is more of a business class and tourist hotel which also has lots of hobbyists. Breakfast at the rail is a really nice plus at Presidente though I seldom stay there any more but in an apartment. rbc100

RBC pretty much nailed it - different strokes for different folks. I've stayed at both hotels, but far more times at Sportsmen's. I actually like not being in the heart of the gulch all the time, and Sportsmen's location is safe and very easy access to everywhere (actually closer to ZB and NF). But if I had to pick one deciding factor, it's the discomfort of bringing in and registering my "guests" at the Prez front desk - which you don't have to do at Sportsmen's. And the on-site talent at Sportsmen's most evenings more than suffices.

After reading GetRhythm and RBC, I am thinking what the F was I thinking. You know I have never been a real like fancy shmancy guy, but a jeans and t-shirt and I just want to relax and be myself, not have someone question me at what I am doing. No offense I am sure that the Prez is a nice place, but I think I will go SL. thanks for the help guys.

I am considering those two places right now!

How about the safety of the walk from the DR to the SL. Those two blocks to the Prez can be unnecessarily "interesting." How about an evening walk back to the SL? What does a cab usually run to the SL?

just about all taxi rides in the central district will cost less than $2 (1000 colones)

I usually give the taxi driver the change from a 1000 colones note.

sometimes, at night, they will try to qoute a double price like $4 (2000 colones) for the same ride during the day is only 1000 colones.

frankly, i don't see how the poor devils make a living at all with the price of gas, license costs, upkeep and all the bull that goes with being a taqxi cab driver.

either way, it is not going to break our budgets paying $2 or less or being ripped off for $4 or less.

here is a typical rip off senerio, you leave the SL with a little darling and it is late and a slight rain is coming down.

Now, do you want to walk back to the Gulch (about 4 blocks) or do you want to ride in the taxi after the driver tells you 2000 colones because it is raining, it's dark, the dog ate his permit etc....?

ps Staven, you sound like you might belong at the Hotel Nuevo Johnson or the Cardboard Inn

Since it's hard to get my .44 and Kevlar through security these days, how is the walk solo late a night? BTW, I walk just about anywhere in Manhattan all the time, and know the I'm-too-busy-to-get-mugged image.

Cyr,
I am from NY too, and I am used to walking home at 3am in my neighborhood. But NOT in CR. $3-4 taxi ride isn't worth your well-being or even your life. Even if you were able to fight him/them off, you still couldn't hurt them, because then YOU'd be going to jail. (Kind of like the guy who breaks his back falling off your roof when he was trying to break into your house and then suing you. )

It's about 5 1/2 blocks from the Del Rey to SL in a zig zag path. I would recommend making the walk in the daylight and sober before attempting it later.

Last week I made the walk from the Del Rey to SL 4 times between the hours of 6:30 and 7:15PM. It was almost dark and a slight risk but early enough that there were still others in Parque España (the little park just east of Parque Morazan).

I actually saw two young cops walking through there about 6:30 one evening.

Anytime later than 7:30, or with a "guest" in tow, I would definitely take a taxi. The rate was only $3 at 2AM.

Thanks guys. I'll see if I can do the SL one night for the experience, but otherwise I'll keep my other nights at the Prez, dress code and all.

muhahaha. Just booked a room with Jacuzzi for 79.95 - 10% CRT discount. I am happy. Asked for a quiet room. I know I will be mongering, but when I do finally get tired I would like to fall asleep

Thanks again guys.

This use to be posted as a possibility but now it is being posted as fact.

Does anyone have personal knowledge of a gringo being jailed, after defending himself from muggers, and the mugger was not also taken to jail :?:
