Greetings,

Am considering visiting Jaco for the first time...

- How long of a drive is it say from the airport? I am trying to see if it is worth it to go straight there after flying in at about 8pm.

- What shoud I expect to pay for transportation? (round trip, after 2 nights I would then go to El Presidente for my final two nights.

I see a lot of posts recommending cab drivers so I feel confident that something could be arranged, but need to know what to expect by way of time and costs.

Mucho thanks,

SF

Jaco is approx. 1.5-2 hours from San Jose, depending on traffic/rain.

You can take Interbus for $19 each way.

My interbus trip took 3+hours. Its not real far...the roads are just mountainous and single lines in many places. Not to mention the trucks and no passing zones. DO NOT drive it yourself at night!!!!!

The experess bus takes less then three hours and a great value. Who knows you may sit by and make friend with a cute tica if you speak Spainish. You never know the benifits of getting into the local culture.rbc100

If you are getting in that late at nite, 8+pm, Jaco is another 2 hours--you might not get to a hotel until 10:30, and have to risk a taxi ride(I don't think buses run that late) of $50 from the airport at nite through the mountains. Scares me thinking about it.
I would suggest staying in SJ that first nite, and then heading to Jaco in the a.m., either by bus(much cheaper) or by taxi.

Muchisimos gracias for the advice!

I appreciate all the feedback. Still figuring out my options for my 4th trip to Costa Rica.

My AA flight is scheduled for 8:08pm arrival so I will examine the option of staying the middle 2 nights of my 4 night stay at Jaco.

To further my research, is Jaco worth it for two or would one night be enough to wet my whistle?

Gotta admit I have had a lot of fun in SJO.

By the way, is there a link on how to activate the countdown trip ticker somewhere? It's cool!

Hasta later,

SF

:)

That depends, Guys either seem to really like Jaco or just hate it... if you're a 20-something surfer you'll love the place and fit right in. If you're over 40 it might seem like a miserably hot, dusty, dirty little beach town with limited, overpriced chicas at the BB(depending on the night and compared to the BM) and you be ready to head back to SJO ASAP, although the trip in itself is an adventure and many cool sights to see- the trip would be better in the daytime. Besides everyone should get out of SJO once in a while. You'll just have to go and play it by ear.

Also the going rate for a taxi to Jaco is $80.00  You would be getting into the BB a little late, Paco is right ...for once  Make the trip during the day, stop at the little restuarant at the midway point, good food and beautiful mountain scenery, stop at the Tarcales(sp?) river bridge and ogle the giant cocadrillas (crocodiles) and time your arrival for late afternoon, cooler and just about perfect to SSS and head to the BB to watch the parade

PL hit it on the head. I'm in the 40+ group and really didn't like Jaco. To hot, to dirt..... I like my comfort! I prefer suites and A/C!!!! The BB will have you sweating. Believe it or not I pulled a gal out of there who didn't want to shower when we hit the room. She hit the road!!!! As hot as it is there is no way I want to mess with a chica who will not shower. Luckily there where other selection available.

More girls in Jaco over the week-end. Many travel from SJ just to work the week-ends. "Cienitous" is in Jaco also.....

One other thing, the BB is sometimes like the farm league for the BM, so some real gems can be found there...... 8)

Oh, it's an epidemic now, affecting ALL of HDR, MOST of BB, and even SOME of SL. -- There are chicas in HDR who now begin the negotation at dos cientos ($200).

And there's nothing you can do about it (if you want them) because other guys are willing to pay it without question. Plain and simple.

I'm going back and forth between Jaco and San Jose a lot these days. When I'm not picking up a client I like to have someone ride just to kill the boredom. I'll try to post when I'm heading to Jaco and if anyone wants to ride along they are welcome.
