Post subject:  Review of the Amon

Just wanted to provide a brief review of the Amon as I stayed there during my May 22 - 29 SJ tour.

Reservation....
Booking thru Nixon at the casino is safe and secure. I was a bit apprehensive with the booking method, but once I arrived and checked in with no issues....then I relaxed.

Lobby and restaurant/bar...
The main lobby is a very welcoming entrance with its glass chandlers and relaxing sitting area with couches. A security guard is always roaming around the entrance and restaurant area keeping a good presence. There was always someone at the front entrance to fetch you a taxi or help with directions. The restaurant is a large area with a nice bar which has a open air seating area to watch the local actions as you enjoy your meals. The morning buffet breakfast is good with a cook to prepare your eggs as you request. Good selection of items off the menu as well. The have a TACA airline travel booth in the lobby plus a travel agent if you wish to book tours/trips. They have 3 PCs off the lobby providing free internet access plus a small gift shop.

Casino....
Nixon's casino is part of the hotel and its entrance is right off the main lobby. It has a nice bar area with card tables and lots of slot machines. Staff was very friendly.

Rooms....
I booked a standard room with my CRT discount and was very happy. The room had 2 queen beds, a sitting area with couch, coffee table, wing chair, sitting table, electronic safe plus locked mini-bar. The room was quiet and over looked the street with a large bay window. Housekeeping each morning. Over-all very comfortable and just like a regular hotel back home.

Chica's....
I had no issues or fees for bringing girls back to my room. I always got them to register and off we went. There's no working girls in the lobby or bar area, so you have to go outside to do your hunting. But the ZB is just steps away.

Over-all my stay at the amon was great. If your looking for a 'cheers' atmosphere like the SL provides, then the Amon may not be a place for you. I would stay at the amon again!

How was noise factor from adjoining room, hallway etc? Sounds like the standard room had a fairly large sitting area too.

I really like the Amon Plaza. The standard room sounds like the same set-up as the junior suite.

Thanks for the info. That's the basic set-up of the junior suite. I guess the junior suite is a little bigger or they just gave me a standard room and told me it was a junior suite (actually the room I had was huge). I think I will book the standard room next time.

Again, the place is a very good place to stay (as long as they pay their taxes). It was weird seeing the "yellow crime scene tape" all over the building during Memorial Day Weekend.

If the special that they are running now for June and July was the normal rate, this place would be pretty close to my first choice of places to stay. As previously stated, it does not have the cheers atmosphere, but it's a good place to conduct your "business" :D 8) .

Hopefully it remains friendly to the needs of CRT. There have been a few scares lately (recent brief shutdown and potential Chica fee) but it looks like Admin and Nixon have worked all of that out.

Torker, the most noise I encountered was from the chica's in my room  Actually, very quiet hotel. Street noise was at a minimun as the hotel is not on a main street. Mostly light traffic during the day. There a hostel/travelers office across the street from the restaurant which gets the most foot traffic from packpackers coming for info.

Broadway. yes I almost forgot about the black/yellow crime tape! For a couple of days the hotel was in limbo as they failed to pay there overdue employee social security tax and the gov't pretty much shut the place down. No new bookings, bar/restaurant closed plus the front desk. The buffet breakfast was still provided on the 4 flr with the casino still operating. An interesting event.

I particulary like sitting in the patio area of the restaurant at night just relaxing with a few beers. It's very calm, quiet, and as you said "tranquilo". Amon is my favorite hotel in S.J.

I was one of the guys who had to change hotels a few weeks ago. I pulled upand the place was closed. The guy at the door said tax problems. Ok, things heppen, but Nixon never once wrote me an e-mail to appologize or make things right after they reopened the next day....
