Kwelgent, As a fellow Floridian, welcome to the board. Your questions are very broad, it is possible to get a dozen different answers to each one of your questions. Where's the best place to stay? It depends on what you mean by "best". Are you looking for 5 star accomodations? Are you looking for the least expensive place? Are you looking for something in the heart of the gulch? Are you looking for a hotel without chica fees? Are you looking for a hotel with a casino? Are you looking for a hotel with many amenities? I think you can understand what I'm saying here. IMHO, since it's your 1st time to CR, I personally recommend you stay in the heart of it all....ground zero.....the belly of the beast.....the Taj Mahal of SJO.......The Hotel Del Rey. Where's the best place to eat? Another very broad question. Your best bet is to look in the "Restaurant" section of this site. There's many reviews on most of the restaurants in the area. Personally, I like Tin Jo, Fogo Brazil, or Machu Pichu. Again, YMMV. Do they take American Dollars? Yes, but you might want to convert some of your dollars to colones after you get settled in. Your exchange will be a little better by using colones. But dollars are accepted most everywhere. As far as women go? You're gonna have to figure that one out for yourself. If you want one woman for your entire trip, or 10 women per day, it's up to you. With enough greenbacks, you can get just about anything you desire in the land of plenty. Just try not to over-think your trip. Just go down there, have a good time, and go with the flow. You'll have all the pu$$y you can handle at your fingertips. IMHO, one of the most important things is to be a gentleman, and not that "ugly american". If you speak spanish, it'll help tremendously. Many CRT members meet daily at the BM for happy hour around 5 pm. Check out the Roll Call section before you leave to see who's in town while you're there. Just remember to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Crime has become much worse over the past few months. Take a cab EVERYWHERE after dark. Have a great time in the land of milk and honeys! K, MG has given you some good general info. It's hard to answer your question in detail since everybody's tastes vary so much. I second his last suggestion. I don't know if you have been reading the board much, but lately there have been A LOT of robberies, mostly armed, right there in the street close to HDR. It's usually after dark and to a guy walking alone. That's their usual MO but it can happen during the day too. My last trip (last weekend) I was very aware of everything around me. We took taxis everywhere. I tried not to walk anywhere alone, day or night. Safety in numbers. Try to find a wingman/wingmen and go places together. You should always be able to find somebody to go to a strip club or an MP with you. The Roll Call section is great for that. Have fun. PS. A great place to eat is Soda Peru (the actual name is something like "Deliciosas de Peru"). We ate there twice last weekend. It is located on the same block as Zone Blue but on the opposite side of the street more up the hill (go with traffic). It's relatively inexpensive and the food is good. I ate the Sea Bass in Tartar Sauce both times. Loved it. |
