Has anyone taken the Delta flight to SJ out of Atlanta. According to the seat reservations the flight I'm on is full..... I'm wondering what the chance is to get a bump and how much they normally offer. I appreciate any info you care to share..... |

Coming back from SJO to ATL they offered me $600 a few months ago. Not sure what they would offer now or if going to SJO makes it any different. |

Scott, I've made the R/T twice in the last 3 weeks. The flights have been almost completely full but I haven't heard about anyone getting bumped off. I usually fly weekdays but I would say on a Friday or Sunday you could have a very good chance of getting bumped. Wit |

speaking of getting bumped... I was checking in at the TACA counter on Tuesday at SJO and a guy to my right was really giving it to the poor TACA check-in employee. "Let me tell you what's gonna happen... I WILL be on this flight" "I have a confirmed ticket here and I WILL be in Vegas by tomorrow" "I'm a frequent flier, so I know what I'm doing, you need to bump somebody off this flight so I can get on it" A few other I can't recall. It was very entertaining, but I felt bad for the ticket agent. He was experiencing "an ugly american". |

I flew out of Atlanta last Saturday on Delta and they were offering $200 and business class on the next available flight to get people off the plane. I was hoping they would offer the same thing on the SJO-ATL fligh but the plane wasn't full on the way home. I would have taken that in a heartbeat. |

I'm booked on the Atlanta flights in July and could only snag a center seat on the return and there were only four of them available. A center seat shouldn't be too bad on the return because by reading these trip reports, I'll more than likely be wore out and will sleep all the way home. This old guy will struggle attempting to work an entire years worth of sex into a five day period but I'll give it the old college try! |

Californicationdude - It depends on if you use Bill Clinton's defination of sex, or if unlike Clinton, you include BJ's etc. In all honesty, I have never kept score of what a years worth of sex for an old fart like me is, but I do know that I never get enough and wish I was capable of the frequency I enjoyed as a twenty year old. All I can tell you is an old quote from an unknow source: "Once a king, always a king, once a knight (night) is enough." |

I have taken the A.M. flight several times never seen a bump, the afternoon flight has less people so it would be easy to take the next flight. Return flights from San Jose are usually more crowded than the incoming flights and I have been there several times when they offered Delta Dollars to give up a seat. If you are a medallion flier there are more seats 'available' flight shows full, when a platinum medalllion member requests seats several more appear on the screen. |

Fortunately most airline customer service personnel are well trained in handling irate passengers. In San Jose I think there would always be a few willing mongers eager to give up their seat for a hotel, meals and travel vouchers. Hell, some would skip those for a free taxi ride to the HDR |

I didn't see if he ever made it. As I was leaving after checking in, he was still yelling at the clerks. It sounded like he really needed to be somewhere by the next day. I wonder if he was supposed to be on my flight. I would have given up my seat for him, if TACA would give me some $ credit. |

Here's the scoop. 200.00 DL dollars for a delay under 4 hours (usually can accomadate an upgrade if avail). 400 DL dollars for a delay over 4 hours. 400 is the max even if it's overnight. It's going to be tough getting a bump this year. The airline flies twice a day 1040am and 640pm. Delta's mixing up the week with different size planes. On the busier day or heavy cargo skd they use 767 (wide body) on others 757. usually a 757 though. The reason they won't offer to many bumps is because SJO is a tourist market therefore First Class has many empty seats, so DL will overbook coach 20 times, but have 20 first class seats. If they need they will upgrade people (usually Medallions and family that normally wouldn't qualify for an upg). I fly standby and have been fortunate enoiugh never to fly in coach, and that's 3 years running. Once a month visitor. I appreciate everyone here who chooses DL. We need your patronage. |
