Actually, once you've made one complete trip in and out it's pretty easy.

Straight shot down to immigration. Baggage claim is right down the escalator.
If I'm waiting for a bag I can hit the baño, ATM and Duty Free before my bag comes out.

Then it's through the X-ray (I've never had a bag opened) and out the door to pay for a taxi and I'm gone.

When leaving San Jose the taxi drops me off at the door. I usually pay my exit tax at Hotel Presidente so there is no holdup there. Then it's up to the ticket counter, through ID check and X-ray and on to the gate.

I think it's one of the easiest airports I've been in to get in and out of.

Last week when I arrived in Atlanta I was the 3rd person off the plane. All the immigration lines (about 20 of them) had at least 30 people in them. Another flight arrived after us. By the time I got to the officer there were only 1 or 2 other people in ALL THE LINES! Everyone had moved to other lines.

Hell, even the foreign visitors moved through faster than our line. It was rediculous.

I agree, it's pretty easy to get in and out of SJO. In Feb, I landed at 9:45, I was at SL by like 10:20. Unfortunately, my room wasn't ready until about 12:30. That's the only downside to coming in so early.

Here's as tip: just as you come up to the immigration lines, there's a small counter on the left side that sells the exit tax. If there's nobody on line or just a couple of people, I usually buy the tax there. One less thing to worry about. Last trip, nobody on line, it took about 45 seconds.

1) The line at immigration is too long.
2) Burger King is overpriced.
3) Burger King always gives me change in colones.

Happy, anxious gringos arriving, sad, tired gringos departing, just another day at SJO :P

I think all the food concessions at the airport are way over priced not just BK.

Only good deal are the free samples of coffee, liqueur and candy at the Café Britt store

#2... ROTFLMAO...
And it's not like the BK that I am used to!

I have been to several international airports... jamaica... CanCun...

SJO seemed to be the easiest.

The imigration line being to long. Best way to get around that is give one of the porters holding a wheelchair in the airport 10 bucks and have them wheel you up to the handicap line.

Here are three;

Depending on when your flight is, the ticket counter
may not be open, so you are stuck in a long line
waiting to check in.

The hand searching of bags is really time consuming,
and should not be needed, in this advanced age of
detailed xray machines.

You are charged $2 to have a smoke in the smoking lounge.

SJO is still allot less hassle than American airports, coming and going.

The old upstairs cafeteria closed when they remodeled. It was a much better place to eat than any of the pizza/burger dives there now and cost about half as much. At least now it is fairly easy to find the way to the international gates. They used to be hidden under the stairs.

That's when you run up to the other Burger King. :)

4) Bathroom stalls are too small, you can hardly fit your carry-ons in the shitter with you. :x

The last time I was there, only one of the duty free booze stores was open due to renovation (actully one upstairs and one by bagage claim). Has this improved yet?
