My flight tomorrow evening has no seats available in coach or Biz classes 30 hours before take-off. Fortunately I got bumped up to Biz class.

The return (July 4th) has 1 open seat in coach and 18 Biz class (I should again be bumped up to one of those). Granted it is a holiday weekend but with the flights filled to the brim prices are not coming down anytime soon.

When a plane has a problem or a weather delay causes people to be rebooked on another flight it really causes a mess, especially if there aren't any open seats available.

Last night DL #246 (my flight) was diverted to W. Palm Beach (I don't know why). It arrived in San Jose at 2:15AM, 5 1/2 hours late.

Be prepared for ANYTHING. Take a DVD player or CD player. Most airports have electrical outlets on walls or poles to plug into while you're waiting. Also pack a bottle of water and some snacks in your carry-on. You just never know what may happen.

Happy flying.

Wit, I think that is great advice. Being that I usually deal with two of the most notorious airports (MIA and ORD), I find this a great reminder. I can't remember the last time when all 4 legs of my flight went off without a hitch.

Good luck finding a place to plug in at the Miami Airport. The international area is the pits!!!!! Never seems to be any hot chicas on the flight to SJ to pass the time with either. Oh, and add the anticipation factor and it makes any delay a real pain. Pura Vida to all you lucky guys heading south!!!!

just curious, do your local airports provide wireless internet or Wi-Fi Hotspots? free?

my local airports (JFK and LGA) charge a whopping $4.95 per 30 minutes to be able to connect to wireless internet. Thank you Port Authority of NY/NJ.

I tried to get a connection at the Miami Airport a couple weeks ago (June 8th), while sitting in one of the bars, but could not get connected. But, while waiting for my flight in SJO (Monday, June 12th), I was sitting in the smoking lounge at Juan SantaMaria Int'l Aeropuerto, and I got a connection, unsecured of course.

Damn, Orange. There's an awful lot of days left on your trip counter !!!!!
MG

Delta only has 1 flight a day to SJO from ATL in September and October so seats will be even harder to come by then. I just booked a flight for August and there were only 8 seats left not counting whatever they have held so I doubt we will be seeing lower fares any time soon.

They have been known to put a 767 on when the flight was heavily booked. It wouldn't break my heart if they did that again on mine. 4 aisle seats and 2 windows with only one middle seat per row in coach. Much more comfortable.

I was checking Delta's seats for various days, ATL to SJO and return.
It seems packed and nearly sold out until Labor Day weekend when the seats open up a little.

I just did some more research on Orbitz which lets you view available seats.
Just after Labor Day there is one flight a day each way on Delta, until around Thanksgiving. Then it is back to two a day from Atlanta.

For what it is worth Delta's fares are cheaper than all competitors during the Thanksgiving holiday, except a few dollars higher than American which is a change of planes in Miami.
