Web reviews by hotellers give it a 40% rating for cleanliness. But they can be so finicky.

I think a lot of the Tico hotels past the DR and out towards the ZB way, like along Calle 4 or Avenida 3, offer interior rooms with bath down the hall for 2000-3000 colones to the little darlings.

I don't know if a gringo could get those prices.

Pardon my misspelling. I meant that "hostellers", i.e. backpackers, give it a "thumbs down" for cleanliness. Some may have missed the wit.

I have stayed there twice, and in my opinion it was absolutely clean. I did not take a chica back, (I was meeting Tico friends, and didn't want them to see me in the gulch). I stayed in a single room, not the dorm section, and would highly reccoment it.
There is a car and motorcycle rental there as part of the business, and the cars are tier 2 - a little older, but the rates are great.
