While in San Jose, just make sure that any taxi you take puts on the meter. Ask the driver "maria por favor" and if he doesn't have a meter DON'T GO WITH HIM. Also all the taxis charge the same from the airport. ($14 I believe now) The drivers are all outside the terminal looking for customers. They should take you to the booth where you pay your fare. I'm sure you will have a good time "in the belly of the beast....the DR. Hope to get to meet you there. |

Just past the baggage carousel, there's a window (around the corner as you're walking out) to pay for your taxi. It will be $12 from the airport to the HDR. They'll put you in a "legal" taxi. Also, no matter where you go at night time, take a taxi, especially since this is your 1st trip. One more time..............NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO AT NIGHT, TAKE A TAXI. It's an inexpensive way to keep yourself out of harm's way. Don't mean to dwell on it, but there's been WAY too many people getting mugged lately. Be safe. Have a great time Bkcwhopper! Fellow Mongers; You might be wondering about the disparity between prices from the airport in the above 2 posts. Easy to explain - VB lives up in the hills with all the rich people, so he has to pay 2 bucks more. LVSteve PS: 3 weeks ago, I paid 12.00 from airport to Sabana - yeah, thats right, I live in the park under a big tree. |

YO Bkcwhopper: Unless you like going warp 5 and enjoy living on the dangerous side while flying down the highway.....I might offer a suggestion. When you enter the metered taxi use the back seat (safer) and let the driver adamantly know you do not want him to drive fast. They drive hurriedly so they can catch another fare and you never know the driving abilities of that particular driver....not to mention his sobriety. Just tell him in espanol, "No rapidemente, No rapidemente por favor, entienda?" which means: "not fast, not fast please, understand? If he does not heed your request then tell him "No propina".... he will damn sure understand that. If he gets you there without problems then give his a buck or two. We here at CRT want you to have not only a fun time in SJ but a safe one as well. Oh! I hope that your seatbelt will be working because most of them I have to tie into a knot. Also have a few belts of your favorite booze (mini bottles are good) prior to leaving the airport. Repeat this info on your trip back to airport when you leave SJ. You will do just fine. And don't forget to donate dinero to the "Send Circus to CR" Fund. It's a worthy cause. Bon voyage. |

Other than the cab you take from the airport which will be orange make sure any taxi you take in San Jose is red with yellow triangles on the front doors. As has been stated, in a prvious post, make sure the meter is working and turned on. Do not take a cab parked at the door of the Del Rey hotel they are a rip off. Take the exit on the BM side and turn left walk a half block away and hail a passing cab. The walk will be safe as you will be in front of the Colonial Casino and one of their security people will be at the entrance watching the street. |

I love to see how some of the members step over dollars to pick up nickels. Not trying to be a dick just drank to much tonight with 10 days and counting. |
