anybody else have problems getting them to respond to an email? I have emailed twice in English and spanish to try to see if there are rooms available for my buddy. Nothing. nada. Nil response.

Seems strange to me that they would ignore potential business that way. has this been a problem for you guys?

K by me - I would not worry about it. I have had similar experieiences with organizations and people in CR. Often you may not get a response for a day or two, but then you will get very good service from that point forward. This happened with me and the Presidente last year.

It could be they are having trouble with their internet service, the person that handles computer communications is out for a few days... I would wait a day or two and try again.

There were times when it took a day or two.

Get used to Tico time and your time there will be better. Darren doesn't work every day and sometimes the computer acts up. Give plenty of lead time or you'll wind up stressing out.

I emailed them before my last trip down looking for a room. They never responded. Such is life.

When living in the United States it is not easy to remember CR is still a third world country. Email service here, if they are using RACSA, can be hit or miss at best. Anytime you do not get an answer from a CR company in 2 or 3 days just send them a polite follow up.

thanks for the input, and I do understand about tico time. first message was 5 dago, and last message was 2 days ago, so i don't really think that I'm jumping the gun, but I will wait a day or two more and then try calling. As for lead time, I'm looking to see what's available 2 months down the road, so no worries there either.

Hi K_by_me, I used the Hotels reservation screen but left out my credit card info and they responded back next day. I made my reservation and Darren the manager was great to deal with. No problems.

I have never had a problem getting a reply for HOtel Castillo, usually about two days for them to get back to you. It's a great option if you're on a budget. If only more CRT members would book at the same time so you can actually sit at the bar and talk with someone. It's always dead but the service is great. I booked an 11 day trip for $35 a night and they said they may be able to upgrade my room at no extra cost.

Keep trying.

If you don't hear from them give Darren a call........I can't imagine him not responding unless he is having internet problems...I just got back from 6 days at the castillo..........I stayed in the new wing the first night , great room 2 double beds , frig...etc..$60 includes all taxes with crt discount when paying cash...the next morning I moved to the suite.......wow.this room was huge.....living room, kitchen, huge bedroom, huge garden tub.excellent water pressure in the shower.all for $78 a night all taxes included.......every single chica i took back there was amazed at how nice it was..as soon as I opened the door each time all I heard is.....ahh muy bien  .......This was my first trip to SJ so I don't have alot to compare it too.....but from what I have seen and read you can't beat this place....if you just want a basic room it can be had for $42 a night........martha works during the morning and patricia during the evenings..always smiling and willing to go the extra mile to assure that you have a pleasant stay.......give darren a call and give this place a try....once more people stay here and the word gets out it is gonna be tough to get a room.....IMHO

As far as lodging in the gulch it appears that the 2005 winner of best new hotel was the SL and the 2006 winner is going to be the Castillo. As long as great hotel operators come on board San Jose is just going to get better and better.
