It is now a pain in the ass with the dress code at the Presidente. Recommend anyone with reservations rethink the hotel. I think they will loose most of there business, all the guys I run into will not stay there anymore. |

Staying at the Presidente, with the new policy, after this trip, I will no longer even go to Costa Rica. To many other places that enjoy my cash without the hassel of telling chicas what to wear. Having a great time and similar to mas chicas I tell them off and do what I want. In fact last nite walked in with 2 chicas and just went to my room without stopping. The fact is that they no longer want the sex tourist business. They will have many empty rooms in the future. |

There ya go. That'll teach them a lesson !!!! (just kidding). Barry Cohen, There are so many other hotels in the Gulch area, why not just stay at a different hotel next time, instead of totally giving up on CR. That seems extreme, but that's up to you. Hope the rest of your trip goes well. Mikey-B ![]() |

Well aren't you a credit to CRT. One of the original sponsors of this board. A hotel that has given us a nice discount. A hotel that always puts up a prize for the raffle at CRT function. A hotel that bends over back wards to slip us a room when they are full. And you deliberately and knowingly bust two of their rules and then brag about it. I do not think they will cry very many tears over your decision to take your business elsewhere. |

I am not crazy about the new rules, but they are what they are. When the Presidente made their decision I am sure they considered the consequences. Costa Rica is becoming a more popular tourist destination every month (for better or worse). For every monger they lose I am sure there are several tourists waiting for a room. If guys don't like the rules, fine they can take their business elsewhere. I do not see the point of trying to flaunt their rules and creating animosity with the hotel. That type of behavior will most likely just get the hotel to adjust their rules in the opposite direction that we desire. I was at the Presidente last month. My only experience with the rule was them politely asking one of my guests to zipper up her shirt, which she happened to be falling out of at the time. If I really wanted a young lady in my room and she was denied entry I think I could be in my room and back down with whatever clothes (long shorts, sweats, sweater) she needed in about a minute. This violation of the girls rights might put some guys over the top, which I understand. They have every right to then vote with their feet and find a hotel more to their liking. |

Folks, here's a thought. On your way to Costa Rica, buy a super cheap long coverup/raincoat (or something that passes for one). On your way out of the hotel every day drop it off with the bellhop or front desk. On your way back to the hotel, it's there waiting if it's needed. The dress code is ridiculous and prudish IMO, but with a little thought everyone ends up happy. I've stayed at the Presidente before and the quality was excellent for the price (and that was when I paid full price). Is there any other hotel as nice as the Presidente in the same price range? I've seen reports that SL has some benefits but is not as nice. Is it true? .. |

Totally YMMV. They're both nice, but they're both different. Master Suite at the Prez is real nice, but the Penthouse Suite at the SL is also fantastic. Different strokes for different folks. Try them both, and then make your own decision. Everyone has different opinions on what constitutes "nice". Buena Suerte, MG ![]() |

I've stayed in just about every hotel in San Jose and its surrounding areas so let me chime in here.... First off remember in movie Pretty women.. Come on we all have seen it, the pro Julia Roberts is dressed all slutty open belly boots the works and she is going into a Hotel in Beverly Hills. The Mgt simply asked her in the future to wear appropriate clothing. Of course as usual I tend to over simplify things, but let us look at the Presidente. I have no idea what their #'s are of Regular tourists to the CRT Crowd or any single male traveler. I would assume as CR continues to grow in popularity based on airfare prices and available seats, less and less is needed from CRT or the SMT. With that said lets go 15% of their rooms on any given night are the above and based on trends they are full 99% of the time these days. IF they had to they could fill the balance of their building with Eco Tourists and families if they had to, but as the Management has stated countless times they value our business and welcome us back. At the same time would they risk 85% of their business with bad press, bad reports back from the tourists & groups because some 50plus gringa was offended because some guys brought back the scantily dressed pros through the lobby. It’s a delicate balance that has to be looked at objectively when you’re dealing with a good hotel that is not solely frequented by our groups or like minded fellas. Personally I don't think it is to much to ask to have the gals at least dress some semblance of an appropriate manner when passing though the lobby etc. Someone stated they don't bother the guests who can wear anything they want. I certainly have never seen a Eco Tourist or Gringa wearing 4 inch FMP's (F*Uck Me Pumps) a belly shirt, and a set of silicone lungs hanging out of a tight shirt so Its a bit difficult to compare their being able to wear whatever they want vs. the DR / KL gals we parade through there on a regular basis. Since this is not a Hotel that derives the majority of out business from our trade yet still welcomes us with open arms and still treats us with respect, IMHO I do not think it is a big deal to have a dress code that is protecting their best interests. I am sure this can be debated for ever, but I thought I would have my say. |

I believe it would be interesting to find out where exactly the new policy came from. Some of you that are giving the fantastic Presidente so much credit might be surprised to find it had little to do with hotel management but certain people that had managment's ear. It is a decision coordinated so poorly they actually told a gringa girl in the cafe she was dressed inappropriately, even immorally, and she absolutely went through the roof cussing them. You have to ask yourself who this policy is trying to protect- a couple of management's girlfriends who are insecure; someone they recently promoted who feels the need to make changes; a couple of visitors who are tired of seeing latin girls dressed like their own daughters? C'mon people, wake up. It's perfectly fine for the hotel to make a policy. But if it inconveniences a lot of their patrons for no reason or benefit to the hotel overall then it is bad policy, period. |

To add another thought; Many many of the girls in HDR are bringing clothing to meet the Presidente's dress code. If this policy were enforced by a smaller hotel like the Castillo or Hemingway instead of the Presidente the girls would not have responded by carrying appropriate clothing in their purses. This tells you how much business the Presidente does get from the trade. IF this policy does inconvenience enough people who decide to stay elsewhere the Presidente will definately pay dearly for the policy. Slow season is just around the corner. It's probably incorrect to assume the Pres does not need "our" business enough to care whether this policy inconveniences or ultimately drives business away. |

It all sound like part of the interview to me. Have her borrow a coat jeez. Go with the flow, the prez is protecting their business, they see this as nessecary . They are not bowing down to us. Get used to it. |

I tend to take the opposite view. If a small hotel enforced a dress policy chicas would take steps to comply. They are business people and they are not going to have to turn down a paying customer because, for whatever reason, they do not meet the dress code. This, in my opinion, tells us nothing about the potential impact on the Presidente's business by enforcing a dress code. |

If you were back in the States and going on a sales call, would you show up with your zipper open and all your manliness hanging out? Well the chicas are just going to have to think likewise if they want to make money at the Presidente. As I said in the other thread,I think all this complaining is bringing the end of our relationship with the Presidente sooner than later. As has been said here,if you aren't happy about the dress code, GO ELSEWHERE but try not to ruin it for the guys who don't mind having the chicas cover up a little in the lobby. JEEZ some of you guys act like they are making you Phuck the chicas with their clothes on. |

It most certainly does tell you that many girls expect to be visiting the Presidente which also tells you how many men are taking girls there. But of course there is only potential impact if those many men decide to stay elsewhere and nobody has said otherwise. |
