Can you compare these 3 places for me. They are all resorts which were mentioned in past threads as good places to go away with a chica for overnighters.

1. Flamingo Marina Resort
2. Hotel Parador (Quepos)
3. Tabacon Hot Springs Resort

Give me the good and the bad (prices, distance, service, scenery, romantic, activities, beach, etc).

I am planning a 3 day getaway in May with my chica and I need help deciding. I've narrow it down to these 3, but I'm open to other suggestions.

THANKS.

Orange,

I checked into Tabacon it was like 190.00 a nite. I would like to go there though and its not to hot. I know how you don't like the heat and humidity of the beach.

3 days alone with your chica......

1. Flamingo Marina Resort - Bring lots of money & lots of condoms.
2. Hotel Parador (Quepos) - Bring lots of money & lots of condoms.
3. Tabacon Hot Springs Resort - Bring lots of money & lots of condoms.

That pretty much sums it up for me!

Orange,

I can't speak for 1 & 2...never been to those resorts. I've been to Tabacon, though. It is a beautiful resort...like the "Garden of Eden," but very pricey. The hot springs are out of this world. If my memory serves me correctly, there are 8 or 9 different hot spring pools you can relax in. Some pools are very still and quiet while others have flowing water and mini-waterfalls. The pools are situated in a tropical forest at the base of the volcano, Arenal...an impressive site!

The climate is very cool and comfortable. Food and accommodations at Tabacon are excellent, and offer the perfect setting for a romantic getaway. The drive is a lot further than the Jaco/Quepos area (about 4 hours from SJ), but well worth the trip. Check out the site: http://www.tabacon.com/home_i.html

Another option is to stay in one of the less expensive hotels in nearby La Fortuna. As your trip schedule permits, you can pay a daily admission and have access to the Hot Springs at the Tabacon resort.

yes, I seem to remember one buddy telling me that he visited some hot springs/spas and paid a daily fee instead of paying the higher resort rate....

I think Tabacon would be the most romantic and really like that area. The climate defintely is more pleasant. The Pacific coast is really hot this time of year.I like all three locations but would chose Tabacon myself.rbc100

Tabacon Spa and Resort is truly an incredible place and a great place to melt the heart of your favorita. However, the pricing is out of this world. I think the daily "spa use" is about $12 a day with all privileges that the paying residents have except for the meals.

Instead I recommend either of the two places mentioned below. I stayed at the Pariso last year at about $89 for two persons and the Lavas-Tacotel is even more reasonable than that.

Both places are located with a 1000 colone taxi ride of Tabacon so getting back and forth is easy.

DON'T use the websites I've given for information on the hotels. Check out their OWN website and go through the hotel itself rather than thru the middleman.

Enjoy

I spent some time recently in Brasilito. For a day or two, this is a great destination. It's still a genuine village, but it's also a nice beach town. You've got Playa Conchal a short walk away, with pretty blue water, and the Playa Brasilito is not bad. Two excellent restaurants are within walking distance, El Camaron Dorado and this other place, I forget the name but it's very good. The Hotel Brasilito is cheap but good, although I didn't actually stay there, I just ate breakfast there. The restaurant there is just about right on the beach, a great place to enjoy the view and drink or eat. Brasilito is about 6 miles from Playa Flamingo, and about 20 miles north of Tamarindo.

Chesscat,
I'm pretty sure that the other restaurant you're referring to is called the "Happy Snapper". Been there many times. Matter of fact, this past October, I watched the USA vs CR soccer game on the big screen there.

I agree with your assessment of Brasilito and the surrounding towns. I've stayed in Flamingo numerous times, and the beaches in that area are outstanding.
