Post subject:  amon plaza or hotel castillo?

I will be traveling solo and this will be my virgin trip , I have done exstensive reading on this site and have seen positive reviews on both the amon & castillo.

The SL & prez , as well as the DR are already booked, I was wondering if any CRT members had an opinion on which might be better between the amon & castillo for a newbie. I know they are fairly close together, is one safer than the other?

I appreciate any advise you guys may have. This is a great site with tons of great information. I have never been out of the country and really don't care much for flying, but with hour after hour of reading the info here I feel fairly comfortable that I have done enough research to have a good and safe trip.

Thanks again and I look forward to my first trip. :D

My vote is Castillo because: You get a great rate if a CRT VIP member; it is small and a lot of CRTers stay there you will meet them easily; There's no chica fee; You're right around the corner from the SL; It's a simple walk to the gulch.

I can't say anything about Amon Plaza because I've never stayed there, but I agree with TicaFan about Castillo. Both places are close to the gulch, the Castillo slightly closer.

DITTO!
Plus you can't beat the rate of $42 per night during the dry season...and $35 per night during "green season." (Prices include the CRT discount and taxes).

Thanks to all who responded....... I just got off the phone with Darren at the Castillo and reserved the suite for my stay.

Special thanks to Ticafan for letting me know that they were getting booked up quickly. Darren seems like one heck of a nice guy.

Can't wait to get the trip started :D

Hotel Castillo is very nice for the price. Stayed there for the first night of my virgin trip in Feb 2005. Stayed there only the first night as the SL was full that night.

The "Suite" that I reserved was clean and functional, just don't expect a "Suite" by US standards. It was a Standard large hotel room with a very few extra square feet for a kitchenette and small table. The mini fridge was extremely nice to have in the room and it and the A/C was the ONLY thing I missed when I moved to the Sportsmens the for the rest of the trip.

I WOULD stay there again without hesitation if I could not get in at the SL. Just wanted you to avoid the "Suite" shock that I experienced.

If you are a big breakfast eater, plan on breakfast somewhere besides the free hotel buffet as it was very limited in selection / quantity when I was there. They may have upgraded this as it has now been over a year since I stayed there.

Have a great time and ALWAYS talk to the other guys around as almost all are willing to help out a newbie!

The Castillo breakfast is not "The Denny's Grand Slam" as I had once seen mentioned on this forum.......but I thought it was adequate. I ate it every morning for 30 days. It consisted of gallo pinto, hard boiled eggs, several types of fresh fruit, toast, coffee, fruit juice and sometimes banana nut bread [supplied by Banana Bread Bruce].

Hi everyone - This is my very first post as I am making my first trip to CRSJ. Most of my travels have been to Thailand and now I thought it be nice for a change in scenery. I will be there from May-25 to June-1

I do have some questions if you do not mind answering them.

1. Does anyone have contact info for Castillo's hotel

2. How does CS compare to Thailand -

3. Where should I get a good quality massage with all the extras.

4. Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated.

5. I have read as much info as I could on this forum

BOBSJ,
Welcome to the board. You picked a great weekend for your virgin voyage. There's going to be a lot of CRT Goodfellaz in town that weekend. Read the roll call section, and you'll see who's in town.
Have fun.
Mucho Gusto

BOBSJ,

Others will probably chime in here to advise you to use the Search function to find answers to your questions. the questions are fine, normal, acceptable and have been asked/answered about five hundred times... :P But, in the interest of welcoming a new guy into our band of Merry Men, I will attempt to answer the questions and save you some time. I'm just a nice guy that way! :) Answers are sandwiched between your questions...

I do have some questions if you do not mind answering them.

1. Does anyone have contact info for Castillo's hotel
Sure. And if you're a VIP member of CRt, you'll get a fat discount at Hotel Castillo.

Read this:

https://costaricaticas.com/news.php?id=228

The above link goes to an article with contact info, the hotel's website and information about the cash VIP discount.

2. How does CS compare to Thailand -
I've never been to LOS, however other guys have said that while Thailand is less expensive, more girls, GFE more common and generally the "Big League" of mongering, the flight is a killer by comparison. San Jose is much more compact than even Pataya, and the selection is smaller and slightly more expensive.

3. Where should I get a good quality massage with all the extras.

Any MP will offer what you want. Paola and Natasha at Zona Blue (if they're still there) both give wonderful massage in addition to sex. Again, your VIP membership helps at ZB; you'll get a substantial discount (around $4.00, if memory serves).

4. Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated.
Here's some advice. Read the forum thoroughly. You're an experienced hobbyist, but San Jose isn't Bangkok and it will help to learn about local customs, places and prices.
Another word of advice is to know some Spanish. It will help you have more fun.
Finally, pay the $39.00 and join VIP here at costaricaticas. You'll not only get fantastic discounts on hotels, nightclub admissions, MP sessions, meals, transportation and tours, but you'll also get access to the VIP section, with its wealth of photos, videos, insider information and recommendations. Most important, you'll be supporting this great website. I'm not a shill, by any means. I'm just a guy who has enjoyed VIP membership benefits for nearly two years. Believe me when I tell you, it's money well spent.

5. I have read as much info as I could on this forum
I doubt that very seriously. Doing so would be an impressive undertaking. Go back and read some more. Seriously. Yes, answers to specific questions can be hard to find and takes some perseverance, but it's well worth it.

Thanks from the Newbie to CR - BobSJ medic_91b40@yahoo.com

Thanks Bob! Welcome to CRT. We're happy to help. Oh, and one more word of advice: Post a notice of your trip in the Roll Calls section. Be sure to put your trip dates/year in the subject line. A Roll Call announcement will make it easier for you to connect with other CRT guys, some of whom will be veterans who can really help you get the most out of your trip. Enjoy!

I have stayed at both. The castilo si less $ but you get what you pay for. Room was sparce creeky stairs to walk up but the desk manager spoke english and was helpfull for us being new. Second trip was Amon plaza booked through Nixon in the casino went great. Nice rooms big bathroom maids gave us everything we wanted and getting the breakfast included meant we skipped lunch alot. So if cost is a factor try the nuevo johnson I here it is like 10.00 a day. If you like american style hotel comfortable all the amenaties Amon plaza is best bet.

I liked the Amon when I stayed there I cant comment on the other. However that breakfast at amon was pretty good imho and you can also buy the departure tax at Amon a taxi was never hard to find. I never had a problem bringing any girls there and one chicka left my room and forgot her purse she came back needless to say and the hotel called my room to make sure it was OK for them to let her back up. I was almost ready to go for another session when she got back heh.

A couple notes there are more regular tourist types at amon then say the presidente. I kinda enjoyed their shocked looks when i was walking a TLN to the cab. Stay way from that damn lil refrigerator they check it early and i didnt have time to resupply and some of the items can be expensive. That water was damn good at 5 in the morning when i couldn't find anything else to drink.

Amon Plaza is a very nice place to stay (I never stayed at the Castillo so I can't comment on it). Amon Plaza is a Clarion Hotel. It has a casino, rooms are big and the showers are very good. It is just like a Clarion in the US (modern ammenities). The breakfast is included and it is very good (omelettes, pancakes etc........). The casino host Nixon is a good guy to deal with and if you pay through him you get the CRT discount and no Chica fee
