I'm looking for opinions from the brotherhood. Which is the nicest, most plush suite in (or near) the gulch ? The Master Suite at the Presidente ? Or the Penthouse Suite at the SL ? Or is there a suite out there that's even nicer? Price is not important......and it's only for 2 people. Your comments are appreciated. :)

I have never seen it but from what has been reported here think you would have to give some consideration to the executive suite at Casa Vino.

I know that both the Presidente and SL have recently gotten a lot of coverage as to their most deluxe suites, but I'm wondering about other Gulch area hotels.

Presumably, other hotels have some kind of "penthouse." I think such a suite is pretty standard form for most hotels. For instance, I wonder if the Clarion/Amon Plaza and/or Europa have such suites? The advent of American-style business hotels (i.e. Holiday Inn and Best Western) may have spelled the end of such penthouse suites, but I have to think that older hotels, particularly those which were luxurious in their heyday would have deluxe accomodations.

I myself couldn't afford such luxury, but I'm curious about it. Also, has anyone ever stayed in the top-shelf suite at the HDR, and if so how does it compare to other luxury suites? TIA.

Having stayed t the SL suite and visited both the Pres and the Del Rey, I give the points to the Sportsman's Lodge.

The Master Suite at the Pres and the Penthouse at Sportsmen's are both so totally pimped out it would be very hard to choose between the two. Some points for comparison:

1. Better view from the Master Suite - it's higher up and you can see more of the city.

2. The Master Suite has two very nice private bedrooms with their own bathrooms. The Penthouse has only a single private bedroom with another bed in the open upper loft area; so if privacy matters to you, take heed.

3. The Master Suite has a single large outdoor jacuzzi that can comfortably accommodate at least eight - the Penthouse has two smaller outdoor jacuzzi's positioned side-by-side that are nice for two per at the most.

4. Both have pretty awesome AV setups. Hard to choose there.

5. I think the way the Penthouse is laid out and decorated is much cooler than the Master Suite, but that's a matter of taste.

6. Here's a big one - enforced chica limitation at the Pres of one chica per person; no such limit at Sportsmen's.

The Suite at Casa Vino, while very comfortable and private, is not really comparable to either place - it's really more like a nice apartment. No views to speak of and no jacuzzi, but a nice steam function in the shower that works well, and a full wall projector setup in the living room. It's also much less expensive.

Question Mikey - when you say it's for two people, do you mean you and a wingman, or you and a chica?

Anyway - hope this helps.

Balmoral also has some suites and a presidential suite. Not as modern as SL or Prez, but still might be worthwhile.

G.R. - As I understand it, one can bring 2 chicas to the presidente's Master Suite

Per Irish Drifter, I just edited this to remove the comment about the Balmoral; I figure he knows better than I. Actually, I was surprised to hear that the Balmoral permits chicas; I had been told when first investigating hotel options that the Balmoral simply didn't permit working girls. Sort of glad I'm wrong, but I'm disappointed that they have a high chica fee. Irish, do you know how high? Worse than the Sleep Inn ($35.00/visit)?

I'm still wondering about the Europa (downtown, not the Radisson) and the clarion/Amon Plaza. Both hotels are chica-friendly. Also, what about the Costa Rica Hotel Morazan? Surely these older hotels had some kind of penthouse. And what about the Hotel Nuevo Johnson and/or Asia? Gran Hotel centroamericano? Royal Douche, er....Dutch?

Enquiring minds want to know. :?:

GR,
Thanks for the info. This is exactly the type of information I was looking for. And, BTW, it's for me and my favorita Colombiana. Ph*ck the wingmen. They're big boys. When it comes to the room, they're on their own!!!
Thanks again,
Mikey-B

Mikey...personally I haven't met a chica from Colombia yet that either of these two suites wouldn't be good enough. The standard hotel suite in any hotel in SJ is 6 levels higher than where she lives, and I can guarantee it. Who do you think you are entertaining...Ivanna Trump??? lol Your favorita will be impressed by only one thing... the number of zeros on the bills that you give her. She would rather have $200/night in a $50 room than $50/night in a $200/night room. In fact most of the Colombianas would rather take the whole $250 and sleep in Parque Morazan. hahaha

ElCiego;
In your first reply, you asked about the suite at the top of the Del Rey. I have friends who used to stay there and was able to visit this suite which consists of 3 bedrooms and a sitting room. Nothing real fancy like a hot tub or mirrors. Nicest feature of this suite is the hugh outdoor patio with a teriffic view.

VB,
I agree with you 100 percent, but the suite is more for ME than anyone else.

Each time I stay in Playa Flamingo, I stay in a "Sportsman's Suite", which is a nice ocean-view room w/king size bed, flat screen tv, outside patio area with full bar, refrigerator, jacuzzi, microwave, etc. It has a nice bathroom, even has a bidday (sp). Since I'm a frequent customer, the owner gives me a 20% discount, so I end up paying about $120 per night.

But each time I stay in SJO, I've always gotten a 'standard' room at one of the gulch hotels. I was simply looking for a nicer-than-average room while I'm in the city. Whether my chica likes the room or not was never a factor in the equation!!!

BTW, the next time I bring Ivanna to SJO, I'm staying at your house! That'll certainly make Donald jealous. YOU'RE FIRED !!! :P
