Does anyone know if broadband internet has reached the hotel rooms in SJ yet. If so which ones?

The Hotel Presidente has wireless in all the rooms. I had trouble with my wireless software on my last trip. It would read the signal in the room but I couldn't connect. I had to take my laptop to the lobby where I was able to log on to a different wireless network with no problem.

I have updated my card and software.... so I shouldn't have the problem again on my next trip.

The hotel even has wireless card for use "free on charge" at the hotel desk.

Angler,
Sportsmens Lodge also has wireless throughout the hotel, including the rooms.

However, know that you will most likely not find true broadband in CR. What we call broadband here (dsl, cable, T1: speeds of 3+mbps) is just not available in CR yet. At least I have yet to see it. The best you will find are speeds of at most 1.5mbps, but it's not reliable, there's much variation in speeds, mostly under 1mbps.

This is all true but, I was actually working from my room some last week and the speed was adequate. I must maintain a VPN connection and this is sometimes a problem at hotels. It worked perfectly while I was there even my downloads were manageable.

I've used the broadband now at the following places with these results

Presidente no more problems, they have various routers with different networks to connect depending on what floor you are on........ I am able to use my VPN no problem and I've run speakeasy speed tests with consistent connection speeds about 400KB....

Sportmens Lodge... ...No connection problems... Speed also about 400 to 500KB... one network.....to connect to.... VPN works fine...

Castillo.. Internet not availble 100% depends on the room your in... Speed is about 200KB... VPN works....

Zona Blue 750KB no connection problems.. VPN works fine

Amon Plaza... 100% coverage some rooms have low connectivity vs others... Speed is 250K or less VPN works fine...

ALL THE ABOVE ARE FREE

That covers the majors that I have stayed in..... Real Internationall & Marriott in Firestone have High Speed ports fee is 12.95 per day speed is 1mb or less..

Del Rey has wireless throughout. Works great at the bars or in your room
