I've never done this before (hired a driver)...but I'll need to drive to Atenas (from Sportsmen's Lodage) on 2 occasions to meet with realtors and spend probably 3 or 4 hours looking at properties. A rental car will probably cost me $75 - $90 per day. I have absolutely no clue what a taxi or "driver" might cost but is your guess(s) that economically it makes more sense to rent a car or hire a dependable driver to drive me up there...hang around for several hours while I'm out with the broker and then drive me back? Thx. for the input.

Only way to get an answer to that question is contact a few of the drivers listed on this site, tell them exactly what you require and get a price. Then compare it to the cost of renting a car and the expenses associated with that.

I personally feel you are better off with a driver. You get a better look at an area when you do not have to watch the road while driving and most drivers are well versed on different areas and can give you a lot of info.

Driver for sure.

Im not sure on the car rental fees in CR, but you can guess within reason of what it might be. At the same time factor in you have no idea where your really going ( I dont think ), and your likely not use to the driving conditions. Those 2 things alone would make me take a driver over the rental car.

In the end both will be so close in price that I think you would be stupid not to take a driver. Do some negotiating and see where it gets you.

If you're already at the Sportsman's Lodge, Bill or anyone at the front desk will know good people. Also, it's been my experience that there is rarely a need for an appointment with taxi or shuttle drivers.
