Post subject: | Suggestions for A Romantic Getaway |
I know this issue has been covered and have done research concerning the possibilities of taking a chica to the beach for a couple of nights. I'll be in CR Feb. 21-26 and was hoping to go to the beach 2/23-2/25. Here's the rub, being smack dab in the middle of high season, I'm having problems finding something nice that is not booked. Nor do I wish to make a guranteed reservation, less my little chica flakes out and does a no show, leaving me with a hefty cancellation fee. So here's my wish list for this little getaway and hopefully some CRTer's may have some suggestions for me: 1. Close proximity to SJ - something that will take less than 5 hrs to get to - so far have looked into Quepos, MA, Guanacaste; 2. Nice setting and romantic ambiance - don't mind spending $200 or so a night, but for that price it should be special; 3. No advance reservation required - this is a tough one. Again, I would hate to make a reservation and then cancel. It seems like most of these beach hotels take at least one night's rate if you cancel. Any input would be great. Also, after reading some CRT posts maybe Arenal or La Paz would work (I'd have to talk to the chica since she had her heart set on la playa). The Peace Lodge seemed really cool, but of course, it's sold out that entire week. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Lance |

Your handle cracks me up; are you still writing soft porn paperbacks? ![]() My favorite beach place and GetRhythms is Kayas Place in Puerto Viejo!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously check out Dominical; very laidback and romantic. I think there are some new hotels open now also. |

Sluthog beat me to it... Dominical. Dominical is about 4 hours from San Jose via San Isidro del General and Mt. Cherripo. Rio Mar is a very nice resort. For more basic accomodations, try Tortilla Flats. Roca Verde has a nice hotel, pool and a really great restaurant. American owners Frank and Dave will take good care of you. While you won't need C.C. guaranteed advanced reservations. If accomodations are available, you will probably be able to reserve a room with a phone call 24 hours in advance. I'd recommend Cabinas Coconut Grove, but I'm unsure about Diana & Richard's policy regarding chicas professionales. For an upscale meal in a setting with a breathtaking view, try La Parsela. Dinner for two will run $60.00 or so, including a couple cocktails for each of you. The dining room has two views, one to the crashing waves, the other to a small marina. Very romantic for lunch & dinner. Note that Dominical is hotter than Hell's hinges this time of year; best to find a place either right on the beach (Tortilla Flats, Roca Verde) or one with a pool (Coconut Grove, Rio Mar). Mongering opportunities here are extremely limited, if they exist at all. Bar Mexicana in S. Isidro del General is a bar with chicas (per RBC100). The population of permanent residents in the town is less than 1,000; about 10% are gringos and English is widely spoken. For more local information about Dominical, visit http://www.dominical.biz |
