Just booked an award ticket for my next trip to SJO.

Delta Skymiles awards to the Caribbean/Central America used to be 30,000 mi. for coach, 60,000 for business class.

Award travel to SJO now takes more miles, and adopts the practice of DL Skymiles domestic travel awards. Now, a round-trip coach ticket is 35,000 miles for "skysaver" (i.e., limited seat availability) or 70,000 miles for "skychoice" (i.e., more availability). Business class takes 70,000/140,000 miles.

Another good deal goes the way of the dodo bird. Ah, what bankruptcy will do to a corporation!

How long ago was this? UsAir and AA are still 30k but I'm pretty sure it's been 35k on Delta for the last 2 years at least? :?

Does anybody know how many miles it would take to book a TACA flight (NY-SJO) through AA Advantage. They are partners but I wondering if it would be more since you are booking through a another carrier.

Thanks.

Orange,
I'm not sure if it'd work, but try to book the flight thru AA.com
If they're partners, then the Taca flights should come up as options when you plug in your travel dates. I'd think they would charge the same amount of miles, since they're affiliates. Not sure, but it costs nothing to try it directly thru the AA website. :)

Orange FYI:

TACA on its flight for Distancia members charges 30,000 miles in low season and 35,000 high season.

Do not know if the same miles apply on a TACA flight using AAdvantage rather than Distancia.

When you find out let us know.

I.D.,
You are correct about the Distancia miles booked thru TACA. But I was told by TACA rep that I can book a TACA flight thru AA using my AAdvantage miles, but I didn't ask how many.

I'm with Mikey, I think it would be the same since they're air partners. I think I have about 24K right now, so one more big shopping spree away from a free trip.

I will post any info I get.

For some reason AA considers this the "low season" and only charged me 30K (usually 35K). If I cancel, however, I can only change the dates during the "low season" without incurring a $100 fee. They also charged me an additional $50 for booking 20-7 days from departure (its $100 if you book within the week).

Can't agree more with the current situation with FF miles. Delta used to be real easy by using their web site, now it seems that all availability is at the 70K level. US Air is even worse. They never seem to have any seats available on their DC to SJO route. Guess all those "bonus miles" they give for signing up for credit cards don't mean much if the miles don't get you anything (but maybe some magazine subscriptions).
