I walk to the del Rey from the Nuevo Johnson (nubies, Much, much farther away) I walk down Ave Central every night I am in Sj, I usually leave the Johnson between 10 and 11, I have always found many normal cr people to walk along side of. Maybe I am very lucky, maybe I act like a predator and they look for an easier target, I don't know the answer, but next trip I will probably do the same. BTW I am 5'10 145 Lbs and admit to mid 40's

Someday I will write a trip report about my first trip to cr in 2006 or 7, now that was adventure.... Police roadblock just for me (Jaco), 2 attempted robberies (punteranus) 3 thefts by street people in SJ (actually my wingman got swindled) I told a cop my name was Bavaria Gold (Jaco) it was a vacation to remember......fondly
I have been coming back at least once a year ever since......

A taxi is always the best way in SJ for anyone new or even seasoned..... but when you walk........acting like a predator is better than being the Prey.

hey foos ....the board and action in san jose is slow ...by all means write your long over due report ...and do it fast before you forget all the details .....

A few of my girlfriends have told me in the past that I look like a cop. Say I look so serious all the time and like I am looking for a fight. I definitely have the donut storage device for it, lol. That's probably why I have never been hassled (so far) walking around CR at night. This time down tho I will probably stick mainly to cabs as I am recovering from a broken ankle. I figure a limping beer bellied middle age gringo might just be to hard to resist... and of course, I can't chase anyone. Then again, the way my life has been the last few years, I'd pity the poor thief who did try and rob me. He'd better shoot me first, before getting close enough for me to grab

People say I look angry all of the time, though it's just the way my face is. I really am very happy. It does dissuade the bandidos, though. Still, I take a taxi everywhere at night. Also, like you, I feel like fighting back, even if it is a few twenties they might be robbing. It's just the friggin' principal of the thing.

There is only ONE thing cheap in CR...Taxi service!

Some of you guys are such pussies... I've done the walk hundreds of times day and night and never a problem. The odd beggar sure, but c'mon... never close to being jacked.

Depends on your age...if you are over 40 years old...yes, get a cab.

If you are under 40 years old and are in decent shape...not fat...you can walk all day down the hill...up the hill...anywhere...as long as you dont act like your scared...you should be in total control...

if somebody was to fu*ck with me, i would fu*ck them up easily...i'm muscular built, 170 pounds, 6 feet tall, 35yrs old

most people there are not in that great shape... with no muscles...mostly weak...even if they have a weapon other than a gun, you could fight them off.

my point is...stop being scared...its safe out there...its just like the U.S....if you walk late at night in the U.S. and act all scared...you will also get robbed...no difference!

But if you are trying to walk to save some money...now this is wrong...take the freaking dam*n cab, and stop trying to save a dollar or two...you are going to end up giving all your money to the chicas anyway...give $5 less to the chica...she wont say no...and take the freaking cab

Auant, since I have been robbed at knife point by 2 drugged out tico's not really sure if they checked my age or if I was scared or not .......with over 30 trips over 6 years span ...the last advice I would give would be its ok to walk at night ...just don't act scared ....simarlar to playing roulette ...pick a number ....keeping playing it spin after spin ....it will hit sooner or later.

The one item you cant control is how much crack or paint sniffed has the person who you might run into has in his system ...if you feel safe walking at night then its your business but giving advice to someone (I would hope, wont take it) its not safe !! I don't even like walking down to the corner of the sportmens after 8pm to catch a taxi....

I have wingmen that feel the same way you do ....and makes fun of me or get pissed when I call them fools...I can share story after story of "not scared" guys who have been robbed , drugged or set up.

Next time you walk at night ....think of it in terms of "if I was a thief" who would I rob ....1. greengo's are all rich and they all carry at least $100 or more on them. 2. he is by himself and wont fight back (not really sure if that even crosses their drugged out minds)3. I need more drugs and will do anything to get them.4.the last gringo he tried to rob,he fought back ...so this time I will just stick him with my knife ...that way he will know I mean business !!!

And the biggest point that I can share and you will only know the feeling once its happen to you...is how it changes you ...once you get robbed ....forget about trying to enjoy the rest of your trip ....or the way you look at people and how your views of the town and people who give advice about it being safe to walk alone at night.

Night=cab. A simple equation, even if you are a Navy Seal, Marine Recon, Delta etc. I don't care how buff you are or how big you think your balls are, spend the extra minimal bucks. Or those with a death wish, go ahead. Now, back to the chicas.

At times walking is kind of like being a deer during hunting season, Every but you has a weapon and they know where you are coming from and going to and when, sure most deer have no problem at all and make the season just fine, but for a few unlucky one's, they end up on a plate some where.. You wanna take that chance ?

my biggest fear walking down the sidewalks of sjo is stepping into a utility hole that is missing it's cover. So ya gotta keep your head up to look for the crooks & also look down to make sure ya don't step in a hole and break your ankle/leg
