Damn! You snooze, you lose! Continental is back up to $754 today. I should have snatched at least a couple of visits back to Chi-town when the price was right.

I was right, 2 bags check in free, $450, one brief stop in Nica, 45 minutes less time than COntinental, full meal first leg with full movie, snack on 1.2 hr 2nd leg, good 10am departure time from Chi, 5 pm from SJ, pretty good times for me.

Even though Spirit Airlines had the cheapest airfare, I didn't even consider using them for my upcoming trip. I've heard too many bad things about them. I paid $638 including taxes with Continental.

Perhaps for your exact dates of travel or travel time, but Spirit Airlines has available mid-June flights for $462 all-in from Chicago with a stopover in Fort Lauderdale.

but i think that cost doesnt include the costs for bags and seats...which would add about $100 to the ticket cost???

Yes Tico travel is a good site... you get to pick your seat and mileage is awarded
They work well with AA...other airlines not sure
Chicago is much like Boston to SJO Connect in MIA or Texas... I try to not fly in the wrong direction before going south
As far as AA I am at there mercy for good times to travel to sjo
Leave BOS early in SJO by noon
That $511 is the same as it is from BOS
With the fare that high.. I looked at burning some miles.. 15k each way for sept with good flight times.. got the ticket for $45 tax.. if you have some miles it may be a good time to use them

Finally booked at $497 AA for June 2nd...prices jumped to $725.00, sale prices out of IND where $492 Frontier & $509 USAir...didn't book on speculation that oil prices would drop signigicantly then so would airfares, but it didn't happen. Was trying for the $350 fare that I received twice this year through Delta.

Hope Chicago is still the bargain. AA flight from Dallas/Fort Worth was nearly full.

$200 R/T flights to Costa Rica from Chicago may be available right now.

Also from St. Louis and Portland, OR. Flights are either on USA 3000 or Frontier Airlines.

About $262 with tax.

However, flights are to LIBERIA NOT SAN JOSE. But its a very good deal if you like those airlines and want to visit that area of Costa Rica.

Maybe the start of something good???.....I had been monitoring the price of a Continental flight from ORD to SJO in late October so that a friend could be on my same flight. I paid $ 489 in April and was happy with the price as for the past 8 weeks it has been steady at $689.

On Thursday morning, I checked again and it was the same $ 689. Around 5 pm I went to the Continental website as I was going to start to look for flights in November and the site still had the October dates loaded. I went ahead and checked even though I had checked 7 hours earlier and flight price dropped from $689 to $ 289!!!!!.......... A $400 reduction!!! Jumped right on it and bought it. Called my friend and asked him if he had a shamrock up his behind today?

Maybe the start of something good????

Had been monitoring flights from ORD to SJO since February for travel the second week of June. Started off at $600, then went to $650-$700.

Have Kayak "Price Alert" set up so I check it almost everyday.

In the past I had found that Tuesday and Wednesday's sometimes are the days when I would catch a drop in price. Decided to check tonight on United's website and found United (Continental) from ORD-IAH-SJO for $532. 3 days ago, same flights were $680.

This $532 fare is the cheapest I have seen to SJO since last September.

I heard a news report a couple weeks ago saying that experts predict airfares will rise by 50-100% by the summer time due to high fuel costs and heavy cuts in flight schedules (lower supply of seats). This was for domestic airfares, but it can't be good for int'l either. The main difference is that international flights are usually for leisure so they are not a necesity and people will cut back if the prices get crazy. This will keep prices within reason, unless airlines want to fly empty planes.

I'm taking the family to CR for our annual trip this summer. I'm not crazy about the idea of paying $2400-2800 for 4 tickets.

Right now, it's better to book about 30 days out. Booking too far out will see higher fares due to the uncertainty in future fuel prices.
