Best wishes BKTuna for a successful enterprise! Unfortunately, the gulch looked pretty bleak on my recent trip....very quiet....very few guys around. Hopefully there will be an economic recovery and fellas will start travelling again. I look forward to the grand opening and will try to make it down for the festivities. Tenga suerte!

:| I don't really think it has anything to do with the economy, I think mostly it was because Perro Suckmeoff was in town :| :|

I agree with Mr. Phoenix Rising, but if it is a grand success, Boyd is going to really have to hustle and do some real work for a change, LOL!!!

Personally, I will be there cause of the sports, something the Del Rey is lacking coverage in. Del Rey has lost its appeal for me. I find it smells bad and the bartenders are getting old and fat.

BK, one thing you left out on your list is bartenders. You should hold a recruitment drive in Desamparados, 18-23 years old. Del Rey dropped the ball on this one.

We have enough love sick puppies enamored with the DR bartenders, I think most guys just want competent, attentive bartenders who will bring you the correct change quickly.

We are dividing the job of bartender and waitress. The bartenders will be more experienced and know how to make drinks correctly. All will speak English and be attractive. We will be very firm on the following:

1) Correct change
2) No assumed tips
3) You will not have to flag a waitress down to get a drink.

The list we have so far are very easy on the eyes.

What does it say that in a bar full of hookers, one cares more about what the bartenders look like? :D

Surprised CVCap did not specify no Ticas need apply

Its hardly inaccurate, they really are too dumb to be scared. Low IQs and no morals or work ethics. Of course there are exceptions, but out of the thousands of Ticos I've ever dealt with in any capacity, the majority are semi-retarded. Many mean well, but just have no common sense. If you argue this, you have not been here long enough.

Are you still living in Costa Rica? Not a very realistic wish list, you'd better lower your expectations right now.

Paco, three years ago I was told the same thing about poker dealers and we ran a team to US standards. The key is I will be there every night and if those things do not happen they will be fired. It will take some initial turnover but I guarantee we will accoplish those three goals. people perform the way they are managed and incented. These girls will be making very big money for Costa Rica and I will expect a lot and get a lot. Yes, if you have a Tico manager and leave it to it's own device it will be lousy service.

I feel some of these responses, while true in the main, show a certain lack of trust in Brother BKTuna's skills. No tales out of school. but he's got a lot of skin in this game and he's gonna make it work correctly for us and himself. There will be a "shakedown cruise" period but the results will bring us one outstanding venue top to bottom, side to side, and that most especially includes all the staff. If there is a complaint about someone on staff, the complainer owes it to all of us to bring it to his attention, as opposed to just grumbling. I have every reason to believe all complaints will be listened to, and the legit ones addressed.
If this post is a little bit over-the-top so be it. I'm his friend, not his attack dog.

Jazzy, No issues here, glad we are having a dialogue. We are striving to set the bar very high and the owners have made a serious financial committment to do so. On reflection there are a few places with exceptional service in town. Castro's Disco which is very busy has great experienced waiters and provides excellent quick/honest service. I also have had very good service at Fandango in Escazu. In both of these cases the ownership and management are local,

BK my 2 cents on your staffing (like you need help ) but my experiences with tico bartenders and waiters ...will try to take over your business and they act like pimps ....vips 2 and any strip joint you might go to in san jose ....in fact if a place runs the place with tico male staff ,,,I tend to stay clear of the place (unless the pu*sy is cheap ,,,even then they try to ruin it ) Srilm not trying to push a point but if this bar/casino was in the usa and without working girls I would agree with your point.

Just go to vips2 , lipstick or any other night time place where the house gets a cut on the action or has some reason to push guys into buying drinks or renting pu*sy.

BK just steal the good ones from sportmens at least you know how they work .....most of them are crying now that they have to many people on each shift (last trip that is mostly what I heard
as they were not making enough money due to having to many servers/bartenders scheduled )

Chili, our staff will be all female. I will not solicit any of Bill's staff under any circumstances. Even if one shows up with a resume in hand they would have to discuss it with Bill prior to me even granting them an interview. I have huge respect for what Bill has accomplished at the SL (remember 6 years ago the vets laughed at the idea of a little hotel with girls not in the gulch making it). I also consider Bill a close personal friend. Our target list does include a lot of faces familiar to many of you that have come by to inquire about work.

Well said BK and I agree %100..

Perhaps instead of looking for every fallacy to these plans we should be behind and supportive of BK and what they are trying to do. I always say you want good things for good people and BK certainly qualifies. Let's be lucky we have a guy like him in charge of things, instead of that dip shit in Colombia that doesn't allow smoking and stuff..

Thanks for the efforts and taking what we have to say in consideration, I have no doubt we are at the beggining's of something really good.... 8)
