Orange, you points are all valid.

For a property in its category, it is an excellent choice. In my humble opinion you can not beat it for the price.

But you are correct in pointing out that it does not compare favorably with properties at a higher price points.

But the thing that really did it for me was the upcharge. Let me explain... I booked them for about 4 nights (2 nights then 2 more), I think, with 2 nights for Jaco in between. I made sure to specify that I wanted the deluxe room with air conditioning. All was confirmed with no problems. The first two nights were ok, then we went to Jaco for 2 nights. When we came back, I was told that my type of room wasn't available, so they stuck me in this smelly non-AC room in the older building. I told them that I reserved a deluxe room with AC. Ok, so they offered me a room with a kitchenette and AC, but I had to pay the difference in rates. WTF! They gave my room away then make me pay more? It was only a few dollars but it wasn't about the money. I thought it was lame nickel and diming me like that on account of their own mistake.

Oh yea, the breakfast sucks too. (Amon has the best breakfast of all the places I've stayed at.)

Thanks Orange for posting your thoughts on the place. I think what got me was the description of "suite" When I think suite, I was expecting something really nice. I had no complains about the staff. I forgot to mention that I had left my blackberry in the safe after I checked out of the hotel. A day later, even with other guests checked into that room, my blackberry was still there. Whether thats luck of just a good staff, either way I was lucky. I would recommend this place to someone looking for a budget, low priced place. It has great location close to NF, ZB and SL. However, maybe Im spoiled and I like something a bit newer and maybe not smelling of mold.

So, how is you criticizing Berk for being a critic any different? :P

I am happy to explain that.

First, I did not make any critical statements toward any particular individual did I?. NO, I DID NOT! You are only assuming it is directed at Berk. HOWEVER, If the shoe fits, .......... well you know the rest.

There is a group of self appointed critics that have little better to do than find fault in opinions of others which generally serves no purpose but to bring the discussion down and chase away a number of people that would otherwise like to post their opinions. It is fine to disagree but the tone for many of these folks is nothing short of condescending and rude.

Just look at what this sort of "personal" commentary has done to this thread. This is supposed to be a thread about Hotel Castillio. Instead we have to wade through a point-by-point commentary of why we should discredit the opinions of another member. Who in the hell do these people think they are? If you want to disagree with someone fine! But what is served by talking another member down? It is ridicules.

I am not the only one that was made to feel unwelcome on this board when I first started posting my opinions. It is the same guys that have nothing better that to chase away other members. I have seen these guys’ gang up and pig pile on members that they do not respect. It is just not right and someone should speak up. I am speaking up.

I will leave it to others to judge if I am a hypocrite for shining a light on this behavior.

I suggest YOU take the LOG out of your own eye before you even think of becoming the CRT chief of post police. Here's part of what you said in the "Whiney American" thread.

Quote:
...So when I hear reports from a lawyer from the United States that is complaining about how he has been treated while living in Costa Rica, my best guess is that it says more about the author of the letter than it does about the people of Costa Rica.

There are exceptions to everything, but let me ask the question .....

Is it too much of a stretch of the imagination to guess that a Lawyer from the United States might be an asshole that he might be getting exactly the treatment he deserves? I wish I could say that a majority of the Lawyers from the United State that I have met are nice guys, but unfortunately, that is just not the case. ...

Get a life and get off of this kick of attempting to be the CRT chief of post police.

I have clearly posted my opinion in response to Moon's post on the Castillo. I will repete what I said...

Quote:
I will say your experience differs from mine and that's over the course of numerous stays at the Castillo. I have made my home in 3 different rooms. None were moldy or smelly. I could stay anywhere I want in SJO, but I choose the Castillo for several reasons.

You have to remember this is not the US. It's a 3rd world country. The breakfast is typical and simple. I find the place clean and roach free compared to the Del Rey lobby bar area.

Each to their own. I am more than happy with the place... that's why I keep going back there.

I DID NOT PHUCKING CRITICIZE ANYONE INCLUDING JMOON. What part of that do you not understand? Some of it or ALL of it?

I went on to talk about the price difference between the SL and the Castillo again criticizing NO ONE at any time. What part of that do you not understand?

JMoon went on to add that some Colombian chica said it was a bad place. I replied with the following considering JMoon is a first timer to SJO and has a "bit of experience" (his words) chasing hookers and by his posts CLEARLY implys he is "green"...
Quote:

This was your very first trip to Costa Rica. You haven't learned yet that 99.78754% of all hookers will tell you what you want to hear. :D

What part of that do you NOT understand? Some of it or ALL of it? Did I criticize JMoon? CAN YOU NOT EVEN PHUCKING SEE THE EMOTICON?

I guess you can't considering the log in your own eye. It was at that point Jmoon, you and P55 got your panties in a HUGE WAD up your butt cracks.

As I have already said... get a life. You are at a point where you believe you are a legend in your own mind

Don't take it too hard, JM1975. Berk is an a-hole to everybody and I have never read an account of his phucking anybody. Maybe he used to have sex and misses it....

I am well aware of the "speaks Spanish" discount. It has to do with being able to communicate and use a little "game" on them. If you think it does not work, wing with Jadcujo some time. Berk wouldn't understand that since, for him, it is always all about the money. If he had a date to the prom you can bet he paid her, too.

For those of us who still visit the gulch and can achieve an erection, your post was just fine.

This is about the most childish, immature post that has ever graced the pages of CRT. I don't think anything else needs to be said except in your mind, it appears, you believe you are now a legend in the SJO hooker community and even on this board. I'll let someone else break the news to you.

Dear Berk .......

LOL

#1 I never pointed a finger at you or any other individual. But I must have hit a cord.

#2 For someone that never misses an opportunity to take a jab a fellow member, you are awful sensitive when someone shines a light on you.

They say the best way to deal with a bully is to punch them in the nose. Funny how thin shinned you are…….. Very entertaining. Nice to see the tables turned for a change.......

Have a nice day.

The staff is great! I posted this elsewhere, but I was a little drunk one night and literally left my door open. (not just unlocked, but open). I had left my camera sitting out and other items. I returned in the evening to find my stuff untouched.

This has been my hotel of choice when I have been down. Yes this may not be the Presidente or SL of hotels. But I do like the staff there the location and just the general feel of the place.

The first time I stayed there I was put in room 7 and found it to be noisy from the floor above and below. Then moved up stairs to room 11 which I now make my room of choice. I have only spent one night in the garden rooms out back and found them ok after 9pm when the garden bar closed. As for feed back from the Chicas I have brought back they have not given me any negitive responce. But then I don't have many Columbians back in my room.

The breakfast is not fancy but I eat it and it fills the gap for me. I find it kind of nice to be sitting outside and have a BS with the other guests. If some one wants a fancy breakfast then maybe try the Del Mar rest next to KL.

But lets be honest guys the only time we are in our room is to sleep or play with our Chica of the moment. The rest of the time we are on the hunt or doing other things that make our trip enjoyable.

Just my dos colons on the Castillio. :D :D :D

Room 11 is my favorite too. Most of the chicas were quite impressed with that room (then again, I could give 2 shits what they think about my hotel room). For the price, the Castillo is hard to beat. If you are willing to pay double, then you can probably find several better hotels. The only reason I'm not staying there for the next two weeks (I originally had a reservation there) is because I want to try out apartment living for this trip.

The Castillo seems to be a good value for the money. No, the breakfast is not the "Denny's Grand Slam," but it's "adequate." :)

You really can't call it breakfast.

More like coffee + ....... hard boiled eggs, pinto gallo (rice & beans), toast, fruit. To be fair, SL is only slightly better.

The coffee is good. Beyond that, you need to look elsewhere.

A good breakfast is somewhat hard to come by. The best breakfast (buffet) I have found is at Ley Largo and The Clarion. Both are a bit overpriced ($10/$8)and not that great, but okay. I have yet to find a good made-to-order breakfast. I can not speak for The Presidente, I have not had breakfast there or the Grand for that matter.

I am surpised that no one has come up with a hearty American Style breakfast.

Finally back on track, Yes the breakfast at the Castillo is adequate, I for one enjoy it, and yes it is not Denny's grand slam, but I am in Costa Rica, not The US, I am not looking for americanized food. If I was, I would hop into a cab and head out near the airport, There are two Denny's out there.

Bruces's Breakfast Restaurant........Unfortunately it lasted only several weeks. :?

Personally, I'm not a "big breakfast person," so the Castillo breakfast works fine for me. All I need for breakfast is some fruit, toast and coffee. :)

I have eaten at the Key Kargo breakfast buffet, and thought it was very good, very American.......though a little expensive.
