I get along perfectly fine because I don't notice the train. I always stay in my favorite room and it doesn't bother me. Or the chicas sleeping over on a TLN.

Not an issue, especially considering all the pluses HLA brings to the table.

This is too funny. I kept picturing this 4 mile long commercial train. When I saw a picture of the little commuter train I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I grew up 100 ft from a real train line and 1/2 mile to an airport. Now that was noisy.

I don't need to say anything more about the hospitality of Matt and Don. I didn't notice any train noises while sleeping. I been staying there since 2009. I never had any issues with train waking me up.

I never had any issues with the train until now, when I have discovered I could get a free night by complaining. :D

I am a fan of la Amistad. Great rooms, incredible food and an even better vibe. 33 years I have been visiting San Jose, and la Amistad has to be my favorite. But heck, Matt has never offered to take me out and show me around, even though I come done quite frequently and usually bring buddies with me who spend loads of cash at the hotel. Matt, I want the Matt Tour. After all, we did give up our room for mom last time. :)

I don't post much, but I was staying at La Amistad in January of this past year. I'm a closet part-time monger and my parents were with me. They gave us a free room upgrade and treated us very well. It's a really nice place and when I come back solo this year it's where I'll be staying if they have room.

I just wrapped up an all-inclusive stay at La Amistad with my wife. It was fantastic!
Each of the employees we encountered were kind, helpful and prompt in responding to our requests.
We had breakfast, lunch and dinners. All the food was flavorful and well-prepared. Many thanks to the kitchen, bar and waitstaff. Ricardo and Carlos did a great job of handling the front desk. I saw Carlos running around doing 5 things at once, a lot of the time always with a great attitude. My thanks to the staff that I didn't get a chance to meet, or know their names, but helped make our stay as nice as it was. Thanks Matt for having a great series of promotions, specials and arrangements. You've got a good thing going on at La Amistad! We will be back.

As for train noise, it was not a big deal for us, as we were on the back side, upper part of the building. Yes, it can be loud if you are in the few rooms next to the tracks, but I'm certain they will switch rooms upon request, as we switched from a windowless room, to one with a great view of the city. Again, excellent customer service!

Right, the train(s) are about 10 cars long, no big deal. What's funny is that in CR they don't have the safety apparatus set up to keep you from crossing the tracks if a train is coming. It's ONLY the train's whistle that alerts drivers to its approach. This is not surprising from a country which only in the past year or two invested in street signs for its downtown area.

I have never stayed anywhere else than Amistad in SJ.
BUT - I have never got driven around by Matt and had to pay the $30 taxi ride to the airport at 4am, nobody offered me a free ride!
Ah well - such is life.
I am very happy staying there. The people are amazing. That cannot be said about many places but each person I encounter here are excellent.
I was in the wing near the tracks for 3 nights. The train does not blow its whistle until about 9am. So that problem has been fixed. Thank you admin of Amistad for making this happen.
Also, funny thing, (a first for me), the dude above me came in at about 2am. The stupid chica is talking super loud and of course her high heels are clomping on the hard floors. I heard every move from the first set of stairs until she was seated on the bed and took of her shoes. The dude was being civil and speaking in a very low tone voice. For some reason I could not sleep, having just come in 20 mins prior after being out. My ac was off (didnt help). So for the next hour I hear them f***ing like animals, the bed was moving slightly each time which gave a loud squeek-squeek-squeek!! haha, I was kinda jealous I had no puntang that night tdl. I could not hear voices at this point but just the bed on the floor noises. After one hour more high hell shoe noises, and she was gone. Had to really laugh at this.
The next night I realized I had earplugs and that is the best idea I had for years. I also learned that if you ask at the front desk, they will provide you with earplugs.
