Do you think extra large lubricated condoms count as liquids? I always carry those and vit V on the plane. The only 2 real necessities that if were lost in bagage would be hard or expensive to replace. Fly out Sat will let ya know how it goes.

If you are already flying it's too late...Lubed condoms ARE BANNED .....all liquids, lubricants....etc . Why would you need to carry those items in your carry ons ? Planning to join the mile high club with a flight attendent ? :-)

Seriously, lots of places to replace those lubed condoms here in San Jose

Well....that damn sure does it for old Circus. Having my own mini vodkas and brand of bottled water while sipping on the plane is one of the joys I have which beats the crap out of $5. a mini of a brand I don't drink. Not to mention it helps with my fear of flying....yeah, go ahead and laugh but I've had some scarey episodes in the air and I absolutely hate it. And don't even ask me about my thoughts on the MIA terminal where speaking espanol certainly comes in handy.

Also I NEVER, EVER check in luggage. Only a carry on for me. Sorry G-man but it's a lot longer than 10 minutes in the SJ luggage retreiving area. Also one of the reasons I fly forward is to beat the stampede to customs and get my ass out of the terminal.

Anywone ever try finding an assortment of mini vodkas in CR.......good luck.

Looks like this hombre is not going to be in SJ for the bash. I'll trade in my frigging $590 American ticket for a future flight.....with hopes that the airlines will make everyone fly naked in the near future.....unless you are a Muslim.....then you get to wear your turban and burka head scarf and probably never searched due to profiling.

Guess old Circus will just have to read the trip reports and whack off with the photo gallery entries. The only good news is I get to stay in the lovely Pits of Jax..................yeah, right.

Just flew in today and did not have any more search or delays than usual. Still no liquids

Geez Circus,

It would be a shame to not have the CEO of cardboard inns in attendance for the bash….might I suggest a switch to valium from vodka… Much better for the system and my doctor actually approves of it, as apposed to drinking on planes.

Besides, what happened to your plans to take the dirty dog (Greyhound) to CR…I was anxiously awaiting the trip report…

Yea, it’s going to be a pain in the ass… I always carry on my supply of Mad dog 20/20 and other fine wines…now I will have to check them in (with TACA)… somehow I see a few really drunk Tico baggage handlers…

Now let’s think about this Circus, if you carry on empty minis, you can refill them with cheap duty free in SJ… Now go to the free clinic and tell them you have “anxiety problems” and need some medication, which will get you to SJ….

I was told today but can't verify it that passengers are being told to pack their cellular phones in their checked bags and not carry them onboard. Is this true?

A cellular is almost aessential to my travel safety. Sure hope I can carry it.

ID, read his post again. If I were working security, I'd be checking anyone who has an Islamic look and/or name. It's doubtful that 88 year old Ma Kettle has converted to Islam, so it'd be reasonable to give her a pass. The suicide bombers I referred to in my post were certainly Islamic.

El Lamero hit the nail right on the head.

Circus,
Don't let this airline crap keep you from coming to the Labor Day bash. Have as many $5. drinks on the plane as your heart desires. I'll reimburse you for all your in-air drinks! Just get your ass to SJO for the party! See ya there!

Just returned from SJO... this AM.. Can't say what it will be like later in the afternoon, but Lines were normal AA counter at 530AM...

Security was no different screening bags though all shoes had to be put through.

Immigration line was about 25 deep at that time no reason why. Lines to get to the ticket counters themselves were OUT OF THE CONCOURSE and into the street. I think every airline has flights very early as I have never seen that but it has nothing to do with Security screening & there were many Eco Tourist shirts.

NOTE Back in MIA I had to walk through the main terminal around noon to get to my car and security lines were much smaller and back to normal.

Hope the update helps.

I read his post carefully and understood exactly what he was saying. So let me explain what I was attempting to point out and perhaps did not due in such a way as to make my point clearly.

Current US policy does not not allow profiling, so your statement of.."If I were working security, I'd be checking anyone who has an Islamic look and/or name..', would certainly not be allowed. I believe everyone agrees that an 88 year old grandma from Iowa is not going to blow up a plane. As the old saying goes the "devil lies in the details". How due you decide who may be a terrorist and who is a innocent traveler?

The complexity to which I referred is given the current policy banning profiling how do you decide who not to check without leaving your self open to the charge of discrimination? Do you do primary and secondary checks of all passengers? Do you strip search every 4th passenger knowing that one of those selected might be grandma? Do you due random searches? I do not have the answer. Maybe someone here can come up with some suggestions.

What I do know is that some of the procedures used at US airports borders on the ridiculous. The last time I traveled through Miami and was getting ready to go through security, they have a serpentine rope guide system that you follow, I was asked at the entrance to the serpentine for my ID and boarding pass. I was asked for the same documents at the end of the serpentine, at the head of the xray machine and again at the foot of the machine. Each person who asked to see my boarding pass and ID were in sight and sound of the others. Did they somehow believe I had transformed myself into another person from the time the first person asked for my documents until the last one did?

I have no problem with security procedures that are intended to make travel safer but I have a problem with what appears in some cases to be a "make work" program.

And if your total consumption exceeds 10, I'll pay for the balance.

Seriously, find your favorite brand at the airport bar, have three or four then take 4 Zanax. You'll sleep like a baby and never even realize you're flying. :-)

......

We've been profiling since before 9/11 (legal or not). Since when have wwe been concerned about legalities. Was recording every telephone call made to and from the US legal ? Sure as hell not until El Pres made it legal.

We listen to what the Mossad in Isreal has been telling us for years. We don't even inspect the 20% of stuff that is on every plane as "cargo." We don't have a clue as to what is in the hold of a passenger plane. Fake manifests, etc...phony shippers and receivers. You could literally ship to the US 100 shoulder held rocket launchers. Home Security did precisely that in April and they passed though with no problems. Add to the fact that only 6% of the cargo arriving by ships will ever be examined.

A recent interview with the head of security for El Al described in pretty substanial detail how they do it. A highly trained psychologist in interrogation chats with 1-2 minutes with every passenger boarding an El Al plane from anywhere in Europe. He asks when were you last in Pakistan ? Even if the passenger responds he's never been in Pakistan and his documents don't show any such flight. The terrorist who is already nervous as hell now thinks that security may be on to him. His reaction is noted and he is then directed to further interrogation with another agent. If he still appears suspicious the guy is taken to a special interrogation room where two guys have a go at him. According to El Al they've never failed to ID the guy. If he is legit, no problem, a simple apology and he goes on his way.

Here we hire a contractor who has the low bid and he brings in wand wavers with little training and that was the extent of security prior to 9/11

As for profiling...why the hell not. If you look Muslim, act Muslim, you are suspect. Who gives a damn if they are offended. If you are Hispanic, coming out of Colombia, you are a potential drug smuggler and submitted to some of the most degrading searches possible. We've been doing that for more than 20 years.

The American public has voiced displeasure over carrying a national ID card. If you've got nothing to hide then that is a minor inconvenience and we didn't hear a big protest when we learned our govt was secretly monitoring every international financial transaction and phone call. This is a WAR and in war you take drastic measures. Do we hear any of our brave soldiers complaining they don't like to be in all that sand ?? :-)

Invasion of our civil rights and privacy...Get used to it. It won't end in our lifetimes.

Climbing down from my soapbox and back to talking about poooosie.

El Lamero

,Guys,

This is kind of funny. I called Continental's customer service number to inquire about a number of things about my flights.

While waiting for the directory menu, an announcement was played over the phone. Among other things, carry on items restrictions, etc. the recording said that I should be checked in 2 hours prior to the flight, because security was expected to take much longer than usual.

The live agent subsequently told me that I was welcome to come to the airport early, but that there would be no Continental employees to serve me until 90 minutes before my flight. This is going to be interesting

Good news: ChapStik is okay to bring on board.

I've completely rethought my packing strategy. . My suitcase will end up being 20 pounds overweight, costing me an additional $25.00, but I won't be carrying any bags onto the plane except my laptop. My goal now is to minimize time through Security, and if that means checking the bag versus carrying it on... I'm cool.

Gosh, I feel safer already. How 'bout you?
