If the bartender is still there that worked at Dunn Inn and the old New York bar before, then you have problems. #1 Rip off artist in SJO. I think her name is Yorleny or similar.

What a mess! When you start paying for bartender drinks you really are screwed...they can charge you whatever they want. I've never really figured out why anyone would do this, unless you are planning to take them to your room...and are pretty sure this will actually happen, later. Pay for drinks for the chicas on your side of the counter...those are the targets of your "affection".

And why do bar/hotel managers (perhaps Bill can answer this one) allow their employees, the bartenders, who are manning the transactions, drink alcohol, and many times get drunk, while performing their duties. I've seen plenty of this in CR....HDR, SL, and others but not @ Cocal though.

I might be to square, but if it was my business, and I've owned my own business (not a bar), I would not allow my employees to consume alcohol during their shift....unless, of course, it is a ruse to rip off the customers

This is not a flame....... While Whitecat continues to bash others whom choose not to be cheap, I will say that my 2 stays at Sportsmens have been nothing but great. Sure, the rooms are a little more expensive than some other places, but the quality of service is unmatched. I also think the food there is just as good as any other places that I've eaten in San Jose. In between my 2 stays at SL, I decided to save a few bucks and try the Mona Lisa.....and I got what I deserved for trying to be cheap. Somebody got in my safe and there were people coming through the phucking roof. So, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. This isn't a shot at Whitecat, but why do you even go to CR? I can't be the only one on here to notice that you NEVER stop complaining. If the place is out of your price range, that's fine....but that's not a reason to go after the entire establishment and his clientele. If you want to sit at the Mona Lisa and eat free popcorn with fat, $40 hookers and take them back to your $40 hotel room....have at it. This is just a statement....not a flame.

I think you are confused about the rip off artist. Yorleny worked at bar new york and papis never at the dunn inn. I have seen all the rip off artists and she is not one of them

Unless you can name a specific instance of her doing anything, you should man up and apologize.

Pretty sure you are confused.

With your 3 priorities, stay somewhere else........ maybe Zona 2, or SL, or HDR.

I'm coming at the end of the month and was planning to give ML a try for a couple of days…getting kind of discouraged by all I'm hearing. Does anyone have an opinion about Dunn Inn. Don't hear much talk about it. Any idea on parking for rental car during stay at ML or Dunn?

Dunn in has its own parking. It's Chica friendly but no girls on site. There's a handful across the street at Mona Lisa. I did pretty well there this week (ML). Rooms in DI are very nice, staff is great. Restaurants are under new management and expensive. I was there this morning.

I concur 100%. Yorleny worked at the NYB, Papi's and also Joe B's, but not at the Dunn Inn. I've known Yorleny for over seven years, and never had an issue with her regarding drinks, and I've never heard any other customers complain about her. As Zman mentioned, I think you may have her confused with another bartender, that did indeed work at the NYB and the Dunn Inn (I won't mention her name).

I have known Yorleny for years and from all the establishments that have been listed and never had any problems. I don't believe she ever worked at the Dunn Inn.

I may have the name wrong. But she worked at Michael's (?) Bar attached to Dunn Inn.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I think most of the issues I encountered related to Ticas & the bartenders. Times may have changed but based on all the PMs I am getting, my experiences on my 4 stays at SL were certainly not the only exceptions.

I would recommend a policy where no girl is allowed to order a drink on a guys tab without the bartender stating the item, price, and # of drinks to the customer for verbal approval.

I was in SL two weeks ago to visit the bar. Had no problems as I was paying cash & only ordered a bottled water for my companion.

Thanks Max!
This is our policy.
"I would recommend a policy where no girl is allowed to order a drink on a guys tab without the bartender stating the item, price, and # of drinks to the customer for verbal approval".

I will personally remind each bartender of the house policy of asking the guest before giving a drink to a girl based on "her just saying that the guest is offering to invite" each and every one of the drinks. I think it`sa a very good idea to remind them all. I will also ask Manfred our hotel Manager to post the policy on the bartender bulletin area with "zero tolerance" for not following it.

Again Thanks!
Bill

When I stayed at the SL about a year ago I bought lots of drinks for the girls, and I can state unequivocally that I was always asked to clear any drink request from the ladies.

Excellent. I've enjoyed my time at the SL and it's great to see a responsive owner. My primary issue has been with bartenders & billing. I will always state my experiences and I will always give credit to a responsive owner. The SL isn't alone in the challenge of managing Ticos/Ticas to meet American expectations. I don't envy the task.

I will definitely stop in for a few rounds the first week of June. It's good to see you have your finger on the pulse of things.

All the best.
