Can't get the URL to work nor find a chat person online. My ticket says 35 lbs for each checked bag.

That sounds right. 35 lbs/bag x 2 bags = 70 lbs. With the promotion Avianca just announced, you have an extra 30 lbs, so you can bring a total of 100 lbs.

I got ahold of them last night and they said 70 lbs total to San Jose ...they were checking my particular ticket for July 1...(1 or two bags) so hopefully that's right. I'm going to call today to verify. I think I'm just gonna do one bag checked but would like to take more than the 35 lbs if I can...I'm thinking maybe the 100 lbs is for frequent fliers??

It used to be 50 lbs each checked bag, now it's a total of 70. You can check 1 or 2 bags. It depends on where you are flying from/to. But I think US to/from Central America is 70lbs total.

US to/from South America is still 50lbs x 2.

The promo is only to/from El Salvador based on an email I got from Avianca. Extra 30 lbs free.

That's right. Select the US, Mexico and Canada tab. It shows the extra baggage promotion for El Salvador only. Normal free baggage weight between North America and Central America is only 70 lbs.
