Gentlemen,

In response to comments from Don Juan De Marco. I was at the SL, as most days or everning on last Sunday. I did have a prolonged discussion with a large tattooed man who is the current owner of HLH. I apologize for the service issue you encountered with our staff. I will show your comments to both our Hotel & Bar managers so that they can be addressed properly.

I remember being a tad but not overly fatigued on Sunday, however I thought I had made the rounds greeting customers throughout the day as usual. If I did not greet your table I am sorry and regret not doing so. Pleae stop by again soon and say hello so I can address this personally with you and offer you a complimentary beverage of your choice.

Thank you for your comments.

Ps. Not selling out anytime soon :D

Bill, always the gracious host. Most owners would have not responded. Bill's as standup as they come IMO as is the "large, tattooed, cartoonish" man aka Dirty Jeff (new HLH owner). The SL is what it is. Like every place in the world, they have good menu items and some not so good (but to each his own).

And the service is tens times better and faster than it use to be. A few years ago, you could place a order. Walk to the HLH, La Amistad or Castillo, take a shower in your room there, shave, change clothes, make a few calls, have a drink, walk back to SL and your food STILL would not have arrived yet. The service is night and day better now IMO.

Bill is very aware of how one negative post can viral out of proportions and damage ones reputation. it could take years to build and can fall rather quickly. so of course he will address any issues here and offer a token of apology. then things just move the same.

I have to disagree with you. a few years ago things were better there. the food was better.. and more generous portions

I K*D you not go buy a hamburger and see how many fries show up on your plate hahahah LOL reminds me of that scene in casino where deniro discovers less blue berries in his muffin and goes apeshit. but he was right!!!!

but as the new place starts cooking there will be a fire lit so people may start to come alive again.

I disagree with your comments about Bill. He is the only owner that ever comes on here (that I'm aware of) whether there is a problem or not. I certainly don't think his offer to resolve problems are "token" gestures. They seem to be sincere and genuine. And I don't know Bill. I've just know him by reputation and his posts here.

SL has been a premiere venue for a LONG time. It didn't gain that status with empty, token promises.

The SL to me, is a great place to kick back and have a few bers with friends or a readily available chica. I've taken a few myself and haven't been disappointed for the most part. Bill is an outstanding host. Can you imagine Big John at the HDR going out of his way to listen to complaints and actually addressing them. If someone twisted my arm and demanded that I find something that could be improved it would be the volume of the music. But then again I'm just an old fart who has trouble hearing what an amiga is saying with background noise. Old friends of mine have mentioned this to me as well. Since we "oldies but goodies" tend to leave earlier than the young studs, perhaps Bill might consider cranking it up a little later. (just a suggestion)

that's ok to disagree :)

Bill is one of the few left in the area that understands the power of forums.. and since this is a monger hotel.. one would expect to keep an eye on his niche core customers.. Boyd used to do the same..

if I was the owner of one of these I would hire a fulltime online marketing manager that all he would do is set up a google alert and keep an eye on any negative comments that are made and show up organically in google, face book, trip advisor.. etc

then he could post a counter and address the issue.. so at least it does NOT become something more than it is.

it's the viral affect and since MOST i cannot say how much of the people that visit the sportsmens also due their diligence online

is Bill sincere?? of course like any business that wants to protect his investment. a few negative post here and a few negative posts there can flame into people jumping on the band wagon..

It's all bout the Bucks K*D.. and the rest is just conversation. :D :D :D :D

With all due respect

Sure is alot of hair spliting going on

I have spent many days and nights at ye olde Esportsmans,so they know me, as far as service at the bar... down right crappy to top notch, same with the food.

With that said, I do not let it bother me for I am on vaction and can deal with the tico way of life... think about that and the SL does what they can to hire good help (muy tico)

The labor pool is not that large in CR for what gringos expect or demand for service

I have a bar down the street from where I live and can go there eat ok food over priced drinks and bad service, do I go, no the place has no chicas!

Paco addressed the music thing in a good way( I think he is sucking up to The Admin) but I like music over the call of some game, chicas like it as well, and always find a spot where it does not bother me... club house ... sky bar

As I type this I swill on a can of Bud and thank True Sportsman for having the balls to open one of my favorite places to visit

SL rocks, simple enough.

Bill, I'll be there 3/14-3/17 in the 2 bedroom suite and I will buy you a drink for putting up with this nonsense.

I think it's funny when someone posts a simple review with some comments, in a forum, on how a place could be better and it upsets people. LOL.

I personally am done with this thread, I made my point and it's basically just that the omelet and potatoes order I got was ridiculously small, the music could be turned down at times, and I wish there were better looking girls there. Oh, and at least one waitress might need a talking to about how to diffuse a problem with an order instead of running off the customer by yelling at him and saying he was wrong.

But none of these things are horrible crimes, and you know what? I'll go back to the SL again next time just to see if it's improved. If it has I might stick around more. If not, I won't. So that's that. No biggie.

I think this thread served one very good purpose which is to show that there are areas where the SL might want to improve and which it CAN easily improve. Improvement is good.

Even though I said I was out, I'll try to explain it to you so you "get it".

Most people have no problem with others posting their opinions when they are based on facts.

You didn't like your experiences with the SL. Fair enough. I don't like the Del Rey. TEHO applies.

But you didn't just talk about your experience - you complained about the SL in a way designed to imply the place has bad food, bad service, bad atmosphere, and uncaring ownership. Everyone in the know realizes none of this is accurate.

People who patronize the place read your implied accusations and know none of that is true, so they came in to refute what you implied. It's a public message board, so if you try to damage the reputation of a well-loved place, expect to see people calling you out on it.

It almost seems you had a hidden agenda. I wonder.

Hope that clears it up for you.

I get this "hidden agenda" comment sometimes in forums. I guess it's just because I am opinionated and calls em as I sees em.
In any case, I do not have a hidden agenda. If I did would I say that I plan to go back to check it out next time, and that I encourage others to go and check it out for themselves?

I do expect to get people defending the place, and that's good - it shows the place has fans in spite of the things I don't like about it. There is a difference between "trying to damage the reputation" of a place and simply stating that I have some issues with it that I'd like to see resolved.

I get that people will defend it. I don't get that people get upset about constructive criticism.

Ah, I have you pegged now. "Constructive criticism" my a$$.

Admin Alex, please lock this thread. This dude's just interested in trolling.
