Jazz, gotta go against ya hear.. The local beer is some of the poorest of any country I've travelled to. IMO Love that Presidente in the DR. Imperial and Pilsen have lots of impurities also. Nothing scientific, but I can get a shitty feeling/ slight hangover the next day when I didn't even have a buzz. I drink Heinekin, not the real thing, when I do drink beer. Bavaria Dark not bad. In the super markets and liquor stores they have a fairly good selection of Belgium beers and others. They even have Old Milwaukee, haha.

I don't drink beer but hear many guys rave about DR's ice cold Presidente, must be good stuff...one guy claimed he traveled to DR just for the beer, the women and beach were a bonus.

A Presidente or, as you would say in DR, una fría= king of beers, hand's down. At least for me. The watered-down version sold in the States is still good but pales in comparison to the real thing.

But I still like Pilsen, and I never get hangovers from it. That comes from years growing up in a third world country - those alleged impurities are unlikely to affect me ;)

About those alleged impurities in Imperial?...As in software--that's not a bug, it's an undocumented feature--keeps you from drinking so much beer so you can concentrate on other matters--like shots of Patron Silver or the more-aged Flor de Cana, etc. etc. etc.

I know it all depends on your negotiation skills and such....but what is the average price range to pick up a chica at the Sportsmen Lodge?

That Pilsen is damn good, one can really pound down a lot during the day just to hydrate, and not get too silly... 8)

Could scare off some of the lounge types, or those who are in the mood for "quiet time". SL has always been more of a sports bar place -- it will always be a party place. I stay there all the time, but I go up to Amistad or Tin Jo when I'm in a more romantic mood. That's why there is more than one hotel/bar/restaurant in San Jose. :)

SL rocks, but it has its place, as do the others.

I am one of those, is the kick back do nothing scene gone, I love the SL but am worried about laying down a couple grand and find nothing but a bar, I loved the way it was, Can someone explain how different it is.

Thanks

The difference is there's a bar on the other side where the fountain once was. You can find a picture of it in the gallery. I think its much easier now if you want to duck out of the way of a chica

Wish SL all the best with a slight word of caution. Don't mess too much with the formula that has kept the rooms full for what, five years. Someone mentioned it becoming like KL. There is a KL and people seem to like SL for a reason....

Have to agree. I loved the SL for its party atmosphere and for its ability to lay back and relax. As a guest I enjoyed sometimes just sitting back and observing away from the hustle.

It is morphing toward the KL. Its is still l the best place but has lost some of the charm for me and do feel it will in time drive away part of the old customer base.

No big deal, everything changes, and I wish Bill the best.
