Well ,now I'll be ! Looks like a Soccer mom got a taste of reality outside ,and a longways from the United States.What amazes me is that she is so upset that she cant mind her own business.Its true there are different legalities outside the US. I would assume this may be her first visit in Costa Rica or any foreign country .Maybe she should enlighten herself before traveling abroad~
There is this Information super highway that may have helped her before her journey.Its widely used~The internet

Sorry guys to disagree with the consensus but it is Matt's business model and if he wants to combine eco and monger, it is his right. Sportsmens is just down the block and if you are discreet, Amistad works just fine. I get really tired of the loud and obnoxious American who talks about blowjobs or how much he got for 60$ the night before. Don't get me wrong, I am an American and like to get my money's worth but I don't need to rub it into some gringas face. If they actually had the balls to say something about my new novia, then I would have a problem.

Just my 2 cents

I too can do without the graphic bragging and storytelling. If you want to act like that, just stay in the DR or SL, they're made for you. I like staying at the Amistad because it isn't like those places.

I had high hopes for this place, considering TripAdvisor rated it #2 (out of 50) hotel in San Jose and seemed like a good value (about $65 for a decent looking place and rave reviews) for those of us who are on a slight budget. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and the room did deem to be a good value (it included a tv, its own bathroom, and a temper-pedic bed). Now the bad stuff...did you know prostitution is legal in Costa Rica? Well I didn't but was enlightened about 5 min after we arrived at the hotel. As we were checking in, an older american man escorted his prostitute up to his room (she looked not even 18 mind you...oh and it was still the afternoon!). Another 5 minutes go by, and another mid 50s american man walks down with his "mami" (yes he actually referred to her as that to his friends) and she leaves. I also noticed the hookers give the front desk receptionist something and pick it back up when they leave..it looked like some card. I saw the 3rd prostitute when I was using there computer/internet (oh thats actually another positive...free internet). The hotel is all hard-wood floors, which is pretty but not when you're trying to go to sleep and all you hear are the clacking of the hookers heals..and lots of doors opening/closing. Also, Im a bit of a hypochondriac so all I could think about was how many prostitutes have had sex in the bed...it was like an MSNBC under cover investigation episode was running through my head the whole night...the ones where they blacklight the sheets. I did find 2 small hairs in the bed (Im going to pretend it was off a guys head of hair and not the other "thing" or else I would have a panic attack). The comforter was a little gross and dated (it was satin-like material....you can't bleach that stuff). In the morning I had the pleasure of overhearing the old american men's sexscapades with their costa rican lovers...gross! Oh and the breakfast was disappointing (few fruit, toast, peanut butter, juice box). I guess the hotel is near brothels and an area of San Jose with lots of prostitutes. Do not bring your Ch*ldren here. If you don't mind the hookers and some noise at night then you will do fine here.

I agree with Hikertom. Especially when you live here, that crap gets old after a while... Always get annoyed when certain types show up in normal haunts making a big display of his big belly and daughter like chica.. Keep it in the monger spots or you can easily become prey.

+1 its not like it isn't obvious your paying for it either. which just makes the boasting all the more pathetic to an outsider.
those stories make me laugh like a mad man but how hard is it to have a little tact and be aware of the surroundings?
might want to tone down the gay jokes too if you know what i mean.

I can certainly understand that no one wants an "Ugly American" talking about how far he had his tongue up some girls behind at the breakfast table. By the same token, who wants to here the 300lb gringa rail on her hubby because he isn't putting enough butter on her toast and "where the hell is the syrup", either.

Try as we may, these encounters are going to happen when you put both groups in the same venue. When the restaurant is open and the older gringo takes his momentary novia to dinner, who has more right to be offended, the eco-tourist and his espousa for having to endure the old lecher with the hottie or the monger who has to put up with the nasty looks and overheard morals conversation from the gringarilla and Tarzan of the Jungle?

Not making any judgment at all, just observing that their is going to be friction. :shock:

That bitch gringa was just jealous because she wasn't taken (probably ever)!

And shouldn't the title have been "â€œHotel-CUM-Brothel?â€ ?

Anyhow, this is my favorite hotel in CR. At least she had the decency to say the staff was good. She right about that. The staff is real good! Damned tourists!
