Don't know about no Platapus..... LoL

If it is a Pilatus, it is rare for a turbo prop to crap out.

Hot Airplane. http://www.pilatus-aircraft.com/

Does happen on occasion.

From the news reports it was a Pilatus and the initial reports are that it was not engine failure but rather a poor water landing in rough seas. However, as we all know anything at this time is nothing more than speculation at best. No concrete facts have been reported.

Per Gopher: Marlin, did you miss it when Sansa flew a plane directly into the side of the Volcan Arenal? All were dead.

As newer traveler to CR apparently I did miss the report of this crash. When was it? Was it weather related or pilot error?

I guess I made the assumption that Sansa, because of their training pipeline up through Taca, was a fairly good operation. At least when I've flown on them they appear to be professional....but accidents happen.

Which airline do veterans like better Sansa or Nature air?

I'm not sure, but it seems to me that the crash into the Arenal Volcano three or four years ago was a private plane, not Sansa.

Indeed, anything can happen. Several years ago I was returning from Quepos one afternoon on Sansa. As the flight apparently was overbooked and I was the last person to board (my chica had already boarded), they had me sit in the co-pilots seat. We couldn't take off because a horse was running back and forth across the runway. It was amusing watching a couple of Ticos on small motor-bikes attempt to chase him into the trees and bushes next to the runway.

It was Sansa. In fact, I they cancelled future flights there (at least for a while) because of the controversy. They may have resumed flights to Fortuna, I'm not sure.

Another funny experience on Sansa was flying into the flooded airport in Tamarindo a couple of years ago. First had to use a ladder to climb over a barbed wire fence, then get into a 4 wheel drive truck to ford a fast moving stream to exit the airport.
