Mr. Calculating Betting Man, is your bet that Guy did not rip me off, or that Guy does not have a maid or maintenance man or any other employee that might be the thief?
Your implying that my laziness led to my loss of $700 is stupid. Are you a shill for ML?
Thank you for keeping this alive. The entire story can be found in the 'Hotels' etc. forum under "Ripped Off At The Mona Lisa".

My, My!!! We sure do have a short fuse here...

I make no implications whatsoever. I am only assessing things based upon the material provided (by you, and by other reviews across the board).

Is it your case that you had locked your belongings in the safe, and still they vanished? In this case, the bandits must be quite talented in safe cracking, or the safe itself is dubious.

My sincere commiserations on your loss, but as I had said elsewhere, this could happen anywhere (except in the case suggested in the foregoing sentence).

And, to wrap this up, I have written to Sir Guy for the first time but a few days ago, inquiring about the length of the 'deal' (49/day). Other than that, I have nothing to do, either with the establishment in question, or with the aforementioned gentleman.

Have a good day.

The troubling thing about the ML management is that they did not even address the issue brought up by Scubabum. It was completely ignored by them. This is not the way that La Amistad and SL and Zona2 or ScoreS management behave.
Also everone knows that management has master keys to unlock the room safes and certain employees must know about it and be in possession of keys or master overrides to open any safe in the hotel.
My personal experiences at ML as a visitor have been very negative. I have sat in the empty coffee shop for more than half an hour without getting service. I have sat at the empty bar for more than 20 minutes watching 2 bartenders wiping glasses and not bothering to acknowledge my presence. I did not even bother to enter the casino. Not to mention not a single working girl around on all the various days and times i visited.
Overall lot of bad vibes for me from that place

Point noted. Just hoping someone is listening, and in the interest of good business, is contemplating taking remedial measures.

I was in CR about 2 weeks ago for a friend's bachelor party. I had 3 friends booked at ML for 3 nights each. They arrived Tuesday evening and checked in. One guy's hot water knob was stuck and would not turn on. Other two had safe issues, one was not bolted down, other didn't have one. When they went to reception to complain, the staff was totally indifferent; they could not have cared any less over the guests' problems.

Next day, I arrived and checked into Scores. They saw my room and went and paid for the night and all checked out of the ML. Funny thing is that reception didn't even ask why they are checking out early. Like I said, total indifference.

I had another friend (CRT member) check in to ML on Wednesday afternoon. I will let him tell the story if he wishes but bottom line, his safe was not bolted down, so he had them come and they bolted it down to a dresser as he waited. To a dresser in the room? Was there not enough floor? WTF is wrong with that place?

think it says a lot when a thread is started by the manager of an establishment and then he ignores countless accusations of theft in his hotel.
scubabum has said a LOT of money was stolen from his safe and there has been ZERO response from the management/ownership.
like others have said this would not happen at any other of the known establishments that most of us frequent.
someone would step up and address it.
sometimes silence can be deafening.

True. When I wrote earlier about my giving the benefit of doubt here, I was acting in the pure spirit of benevolence and understanding that these, 'F' ups happen in the best of places. As I have alluded to a few posts back, I had (and still hope) the authorities in charge take cognizance of the issues floating around and make a sincere attempt to address them. That being said, I await evidence to either prove that the allegations were false 'ab initio', or a confidence that remedial measures have been taken to correct them, and evidence of such measures taken.

Was considering a stay in this place during my 10 day sojourn in SJ. Will reserve judgment till I have clarity enough to make a call. No pre-judgment on Sir Guy or anyone, but as noted, the silence is ominous, to say the least.

Stayed there last year and the phones in the rooms were totally inoperative.

Couldn't even call the front desk.

Staff said they knew and that there was no plan to fix them.

To me that's a major security and safety concern.

Additionally a convenience issue as well.
My wingman was on a different floor, so I had use their wonderful elevator everytime I wanted to chat with wingy. Unable to order room service or extra towels etc.

Love the elevator that will not come unless you press both the up and down buttons at the same time.

What a strange post.
I don't make it into sjo too often and always stay at LaAmistad. Never had a problem. Well, there was the one time but we won't go there..... 8)
I will admit: former Attorney (who gives a f) Brown seems suspect. He has been a member for how long and he is siding with an organization maintaining silence in the light of accusations from seasoned travelers? Whatever.
