Sorry to read about this incident. I am staying at the SL for my next trip Labor Day weekend and know that it is as safe as it can possibly be based upon my observations from 9 previous trips. I have always stayed at the SL. My one concern is the content of the computers which were stolen and whether customers' credit card information were contained on any harddrives which were taken. I usually pay cash but give my credit card info to secure the reservation as is required. Should we cancel any cards we used to secure reservations or make purchases? Bill, your input would be much appreciated. Bunda.

Hey just like in my restaurant (back door area ) we have a cage area that you must get Buzzed in first (you ring a bell , person inside the building lets you in the cage area....they are looking out a window in the door) then once your in the cage area ...the person inside either lets you in or you stay in cage ...if your someone we dont know .....the best thing about it (if it's used correctly ,,,the bad person watches how it works before the crime and sees they could be caught in the cage ......I could see that area in front of the sportmens doing it without much work (Bill I could take some photos of it and send it if you like ? )

Sounds kinda like the HLH entrance.

goes to show how difficult it is to run a business let alone one dealing in cash. all those smiling faces don't necessarily have your back. unless you mean the knives they look to stick you with. big advocate of cameras to keep people honest.

If these cops actually patrolled instead of just hanging around the parks and the Del Rey, maybe some of these robberies wouldn't happen.

Obviously you are unaware that there has been a huge hiring surge in the police ranks. Every journeyman Policia is training one or two recruits, as it should be.

Think it is a testament to the preparation and forethought by Bill that this was such a minor event. Usually, and this goes for anywhere in the world, when an employee conspires with others to rob his place of business, the event causes much more economic loss and/or property damage or injury. Thanks to the obvious security measures Bill has used to this point, even a gang of armed thugs with the help of an employee came away with very little. I have NEVER had even a passing thought about security around SL in the 1000+ times I've walked through the door and never will with Bill running the show with his normal courtesy, hospitality and forethought on what a guest wants and needs. Think this incident just goes to show Bill isn't your average business owner in San Jose and SL just isn't a place you want to cause problems ;)

Bill, If you provide me room & board, and one chica allowance a day, I will retire and provide tireless, dedicated, and honest security for the rest of my natural life,...

Are there any consequences for the security guard, other than being fired? It is CR afterall, so I don't expect there would be any.

I'm seeing that. Last night at the Sportsman, I counted no less then 13 cops walk down the road behind the patio in the back room of the bar. Looked like a soccer team going by, lol. It's great seeing them out in force, but it would be better to have that many on the streets at 2am as well -and not just at 9pm

In any city with a large tourist pull is gonna have these things happen once in a while. Even though there are more police on the streets does not mean they are effective. I think being in the SL is one of the more secure places you could be in San Jose, as far as party spots go. Besides, it was not even a normal incident anyway. I for one am not nervous about being there at any time of the day or night. I say bravo to Bill for handling it so quickly and professionally. I doubt anyone will try that again anytime soon.

These aren't mastermind criminals. Just young punks that look for the easiest corner store or local business to do a "smash and grab" . This is common everywhere.

Since they got nothing, they wont be back.

I was at the SL yesterday shooting pool. The Radio station was broadcasting from there and everything was normal.

Well, the robbery hasn't made any difference to the business at SL. I was there last night with my favorita between 9 and 11:30pm or so and the place was packed full right up until 11.
