A standard room is $101 on weekdays, $111 on weekends. PLUS 16% taxes.

They've gotta be kidding... almost $130/night on a weekend is about twice as much as it should be.

I've stayed before and it's nice, the room was a little small by my standards though.
It now seems a little too expensive to me. Overall I've noticed most hotels seem to have increased their rates in SJO.

from a guy who usually hangs his hat @ the Nuevo Johnson, you certainly know what a dump is. I'm happy to pay my $71 + tax for a room @ the Prez.

Remember that that El Prez mainly caters to those grinning fools who've never heard of our (well, OK, YOUR) wise counsel. This is a once-in-a-decade experience for them to share in muttered self-conscious convo at the next Rotary Club or Downtown Business Leader's luncheon and they don't have our sense of balance and rightness. In my not-so-humble opinion.

My preference would be to stay at the Presidente. Really a nice place and the Spa Rooms are a great way to "get lost' with a chica for 3-4 hours.

However.........After spending time, energy and $$ on drinks on the potential candidate, successfully completing the interview process, getting all pumped up in the anticipation, to have a unknown variable hanging over your head........will she or won't she (get in).

I am not going to put myself in a position for someone else to rain on my parade. Happened to me once, and it will never happen to me again.

Talk about aggravating and a MAJOR buzzkill.......F*ck the Presidente!!

I think the moral of the story here is just stay home and pull your wire.

If you want to go fishing for big fish, go to the ocean. If you want little fish or just the fun of dropping in your line and sipping beer while telling good stories and making the last one even better than the first -- go to a pond.

If you are in it for the action, eventually you are going to wind up fishing at the SL, Blue Marlin, or HLH. Consider going to the place where they want you, where there is no problem with taking them to your room.

What the wise Brother said. I personally don't associate with those who barely tolerate me--there's too many that enjoy my company. Scale that statement up, down or sideways--it's still true.
To my mind, El Prez got stuffy at exactly the wrong time touristwise. We'll always come--the beat-down eco-tourists and bizmen, not so much. Funny thing though--this all allowed/ forced the growth and prosperity of smaller, more monger-friendly venues like Dunn Inn, El Castillo, Freebird, and recently, Tiquicia and Hotel Hemingway...Win/ win all 'round for us, I'd say. Just a guess but it materially benefited SL and the HDR too, in greater occ. rates at monger-only venues.
Too bad there isn't a Bronx razzberry emoticon to send El Prez' way.

Ive only been to SJ twice and both times stayed at the Prez....and both times got screwed the the "iron gates" and its watchman. So why do I go back there you ask? First off, I dont like change. I find the Prez's atmosphere refreshing and very convenient. Yes its more expensive, but if youre down here to have a blast...money shouldnt be a huge factor. Second, I enjoy chilling in my room...whether alone, with fellow wingmen or Ticas. The Spa rooms at the Prez rock. I had a chance to visit the rooms at a couple other establishments in SJ, and they just dont compare. Finally, I think of the Prez as the Ritz-Carlton of SJ. Some of the other joints are more like the sort of "no-tels" that I take SW's to in the states. Just my humble, yet naive, opinions.

Papi k, If you look at the penthouse rooms at the Amistad or the rooms at hotel M the Pres will look like a motel 6. I have never stayed at the new rooms at SL but they also look nicer than the pres. I don't like to feel like I am having to ask someones permission to take a chica to the room I have paid my money for, which in effect is what you are doing at the Pres.

I've never had a problem getting any chica into the Presidente. Then again I've only had a few problems getting chicas into the Aurola or the Corobici for that matter. It depends how they look and dress and how you act. If your date has 44DDD silicone howitzers and M13 tattoos, that can be a problem. If you look like you are on the walk of shame, well then you are.

For the record I like the food at the Presidente. I often stop for lunch or breakfast, even when I'm not staying there. I'll even bring my dates and they've never refused me at the restaurant. You can sit at the bar and watch the chica traffic walk by. There's always some members sitting at the tables (between the pillars) drooling and watching the chicas. -You know who you are...you perverts!

I had to pay $42    to buy a pair of jeans to get my chica into the Prez. In fact the doorman told me to go across the street to buy them. Maybe he gets a cut of this, so a good reason for him to refuse admittance. After I purchased the jeans he was more than happy to let her in.

Frequent guests get the "client rate" on rooms, you have to stay there 8 or 10 days/yr. to qualify.

Just checked out of the Presidente last week. Just an FYI, the spa is out of order as they're doing upgrades. It was one of my reasons for selecting this hotel. The clothing policy is very true, but I actually don't mind it, as I rent a side-hotel room at Castillo for fun. I can't risk the phone ringing in my room while a session is active. If the chica answered it, I'd be answering alot of questions back home.

Presidente, great location. Easy walk to the shopping, DR... Easy cab to SL (at night), easy walk to SL during the day. Around the corner is the dry cleaner... you can get a kilo cleaned for 1500c which is ready the same day... you drop it off, they'll deliver it back to you at the Pres (don't pay those dry cleaning fees from the hotel). This is how I keep my packing to just one carry-on. : )
