I just got back from 3 nights at Lost Iguana Resort and all I can say is it was FANTASTIC!!! Exceptional resort..of the beaten path. I drove by Tabacon and it seems to be situated amongst a cluster of hotels and resorts whereas Lost Iguana is maybe 15 to 20 minutes further away (just before Arenal Lodge and it is totally quiet and peaceful of there. My room ran $185 per night and I got a 10% discount which essentially covers the taxes.

And while you're in the area and if you're fit and adventurous try the Vernado Caves tour. UnF*ckin believable!!

In 2013, a fantastic chica I met at the HDR (fortunately) talked me into going up to Arenal/Tabacon for one night. I brought a decent amount of cash with me, but forgot to bring a credit card (left it in my room safe at the SL!). When I told my problemita to the front desk, the guy told me no hay problema, he'd give me the "Honeymoon Suite" for just $195...I handed him two cien notes, got no change, said nothing, took my room key and was shocked to find a truly beautiful and capacious room, with a jacuzzi pool in the bathroom. Later, I figured out what happened: I came in late (about 9:00 PM), no-one was around (even my chica was using the bano), so the frontdeskman probably pocketed the cash--a real win-win--as the room was listed at $600/nite on the internet. BTW, the hot springs were terrific, the breakfast spread, top notch. Five stars!

I appreciate Bro Zadok bringing this pre-'08-Crash Thread back from the dead, not least to re-read Bro Prolijo's sterling prose. Miss his take on anything he wrote about--we are the lesser for his self-imposed absence.

I was there last April for 2 nights. Real nice place to relax.
