They do it because of personal EGO in,Capital Letters which , drives their CAPITOL ambitions. EGO affects people of all political persuasions, and is ls not limited to members on any particular party or affiliaton.

The Economic Times – “India's largest and world's second largest financial daily”

Sex scandal: A timeless theme in US politics
13 March 2008

The Economic Times reported that during the past 30 years there have been at least 50 political sex scandals which made significant news and in the year 2007, approximately 60 corporate “CEOs were forced to resign over ethical issues often related to their private lives” which were quite likely to have been sexual liaisons of one type or another.

While the President Clinton situation was played out as a daily soap opera on the “news” no one really cared about it other than the cause of prurient interest. Mr. Clinton was able to complete “his mandate [and] still [remain] one of the most popular presidents in modern times because ‘Americans were willing to excuse his behavior because he was never hypocritical about it, and he seemed sincere in his apologies.’”

On the other hand, when now former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was caught as Client No. 9, of a VIP prostitution service, few had sympathy for him because of his egregious hypocrisy. “Voters just don't like people who say one thing and then completely do another,” according the John Zogby of Zogby Polling International.

The above is simply an observation because I believe people really don't care if you are boinking someone else as long as you are discrete.

And if you get caught, the only person you have to lie to is your wife. And you do that as long as you can. That is what President Clinton did. And I'll bet anyone of us if caught would tell the wife something that sounds like: "Honey, don't let you’re lying eyes deceive you. I did not have sex with . . . that wasn't me, it was . . ."

On the other hand, if you are a public figure, a Spitzer type, and condemn everyone else while doing it yourself; stand by because the public can be unforgiving and vicious. Hypocrisy really goes against the American sense of fair play.
