The over/under can't be set unless I know whether or not they will leave the DR or not. After all, they are married guys supposedly checking out CR for possible retirement. They will need to at least come home with some brochures. If they check into their rooms and go directly to the bar, then the O/U is 1 hour and 47 minutes for the "shy friend" to be back in his room banging away. However his religious convictions may alter this number.

I'd definately take the under on that one, I was thinking it would be a question of whether he finished his first beer or not.

I still haven't lined up a Rental Car... everyone tells me to get a 4x4... any recommendations in that area would be appreciated too.

Is your life insurance all paid up?

If you don't mind shelling out big dollars on gas, get the 4x4, it's safer. Gas there is about the same or even more expensive then it is here.

Do the smaller cites have friendly Ticas?

Again, Thank you!

Unless you are really going off the beaten path, which is doubtful on your maiden voyage, there is no reason to rent a 4x4.

Given that you have never driven in Costa Rica, have never been in the country, gas now being close to $5.20 a gallon, you do not speak any Spanish, etc. I would suggest you forget renting a car and hire a driver and car to take you exploring. Check out the thread on dependable drivers.

Using a hired car will allow you to relax enjoy the scenery and learn a lot about the county and the various areas you are considering for retirement. Also if you are looking for chicas in the small towns you will never find them. A Tico driver might have better results.

The thought of my friend in my room watching CNN and looking at maps while I'm trying to take care of business...

Somebody check with VB on what the over/under is on how long it takes his friend to take a guest up the elevator.

I'll take my laptop with me and tell you all when he goes down.. this guy needs this trip and really needs laid worse... I have all intentions in pushing him in that direction. Nice guy but somehow lost his confidence along the way... one good date could make a big difference in my friends life.

Gas sucks everywhere!!! I think we'll be okay we have a RAV4 lined up... my nephew just got back and said he rather enjoyed driving there, here's his exact words: "Driving – pretend you are a NASCAR car driver and you want to win. This is driving in CR. However the speed limits are low and only a few Policia. People do not have the right of way. This also means watch out when walking on streets – they will run you over. Streets can be extremely narrow and people do pass semi’s with oncoming traffic on a blind turn and in the other lane. Also the biggest vehicle has the right of way – period."

I'll bet the non-hobbyist friend goes for it within two hours of check-in.

If they arrive at the HDR on a Saturday night I'll bet he doesn't make it up the elevvator without a chica!
