I love Castillo. It is my home when I am in CR. The staff is great. Very accomodating. The manager Darren is great.

I have never had a problem that could not be dealt with.

As far as the breakfast.

There are two of them. And they both are free. Yep. free. No meat involved, but you can walk your ass down to Mas por Menos grab some chorizo, jamon, tocino, or whatever floats your boat and have it cooked to your specifications.

Two blocks from SL, six blocks from Del Rey, two blocks from ZB, 1 block from NF.

Phuck!

What more can you ask for?

Are you going to screw or vacation? If you are on vacation take your wife upgrade to Marriot!

I like to Phuck my bed all around the room! The chics dig it!

I think when you visit CR and feel that you are somehow deserving of better than the rest and somewhat Gringo arogante.

You probably wont feel accomodated anywhere that you stay.

I have stayed at Barcelo Rincon, Balmoral. Too many hits to the pocket for everything.
Visitors 15, wet bar deposit 50.
Bullshit.
I got my Ron Zentenerio 23 anos.

One bottle cost more than all the crap in the wet bar at Barcelo and Balmoral!

Oh! And by the way both Balmoral and Barcelo smelled like lockeroom jailhouse mildewed jungle ass. Even when the sheets were changed the rooms smelled the same!

50

I think you will enjoy it. One of my favorite CR activities is to go down to the Castillo breakfast court yard early in the morning and have breakfast. I enjoy the new dawn, costa rican coffee, watching the resident squirrel raid the breakfast bar and listening to the conures (small parrots) in the trees above. Lastly, there are some great conversations to be had with the other mongers at breakfast. By the time that episode is over, ZB is open and I'm ready for my morning pick me up there. Sublime.

I've said this many times...Hotel Castillo is my home away from home in San Jose. It has loyal guests just like Sportsmens, La Amistad, Morazon, Del Rey and maybe even still the Presidente. We all have our own reasons for preferring one hotel over another. I think you made a good choice for your first visit. If Hotel Castillo is not up to your tastes, then scope out some of the other options...and adjust accordingly on your next trip.

BTW, Patrizia and I spoke while I was in San Jose earlier this week. She is in fact housekeeping for a very dear friend and doing a damned fine job of it according to her boss.

Peace,

I'm stoked. :D I will be trying the Castillo on for size the first two nights of my upcoming trip. :D I won the two nights' stay as a raffle prize at last year's CRT Anniversary party.

I have only heard one negative story about the Castillo. A fellow CRT'er returned to the hotel from the HDR after an evening of passing out cookies and drinking cappucinos. :P His card apparently didn't work in the outside gate. He attempted unsuccessfully for several long minutes to get the attention of the night clerk, who was too busy whacking off to porno movies in the office to open the gate. I don't remember how our friend ended up passing the rest of the night, but he never did gain entrance to the hotel.

I really like the garden bar area. Very friendly staff there too. And as someone else pointed out, the chicas there are muy tranquilas y simpaticas. :D

No key cards at the Castillo...just a buzzer. If the above anecdote is accurate...and my hunch is correct...the guy on duty at the front desk was probably whacking a real chica.

Nope..got the key card part confused with the Amistad...different story. Our intrepid cookie baker was locked out of the Castillo nonetheless. Darren made it as right as he could afterward, to his credit...but what a pain in the ass to return to your hotel to find yourself locked out b/c some dude at the front desk is getting busy one way or the other. :(

Oh, one thing I forgot. The location is as good as it gets, IMHO. Super close to many places we want to be.

Blue Devil, you talked about different hotels attracting different folks. I have long felt that we seek out different hotel types based on our very different needs personalities and psychies. Some like frat like atmosperes (HDR), a sophisiticated urban venue near HDR (like Presidente,) a semi quiet, exclusuive club like or upper tier frat house (Sportsmans/ Amistad) or comfortable and homey(Castillo). Discussion of those 'types' and what we seek as individuals could make an interesting thread.

Nuevo Johnson is for extreme budgets where the room cost to phfuck per dollar ratio is paramont
