Spirit makes no apologies for what they offer: low fares and no frills service. You want a soda, it'll be a dollar. Fine. They work fine for me to SJO from FLL (never had any serious delays and the price is always right). Plus their booze is the same as any other airline in coach, and they comp the sodas when you buy the little bottles of Jack. I don't like the 2 hour wait in FLL to check in and clear security when flying Spirit, but it beats coming to Miami.

On a side note the Bearded Clam was flying back to FLL from SFO yesterday on U.S.Air and was due to arrive (via Charlotte) at 11:30 p.m.. According to his text message of this morning he landed at 4:30 a.m.

I believe this reflects more on the state of air travel than Spirit. But what do I know?

In spite of what Gringbill and Phoenix Rising feel about what they perceive as Spirit Airlines bashing it is a fact that Spirit has had a great deal of problems at FLL. Spirit themselves readily admit this and records kept at the Broward Aviation Department and the Broward Sheriffs airport unit confirm this. Part of the problems was of Spirits making, rapid expansion, inadequate poorly trained staff, etc. Other things were out of their control such as the airports delay in moving a large piece of TSA bomb detection equipment out of the terminal area, so Spirit could expand it check-in counters to handle the volume of traffic, in the time frame promised.

Certainly delays, rude customer service staff, lost luggage are problems not unique to Spirit. It is the volume of these problems as a percentage of their passenger volume that is troubling. Yes there are many who have flown Spirit, multiple times, without a problem. That does not change the fact that their service lags behind most other carriers. To some that is acceptable to others it is not. The cost/benefit relationship has to weighed by everyone making a decision to fly Spirit or not.

TACA's Sunday nonstop does not arrive MIA until 10:30 p.m.

NOT VERY CONVENIENT FOR ME.

But I am glad, Mr. Fox, you are such a fan. :D

p.s. Enjoy Baltimore.

Just curious... why wouldn't that be conveninent?

You get a full day in SJO, and you can still get home by 1am... Plenty of time to get 5 hours sleep before going to work on Monday...

I hate returning the night before work.....which makes for some bizzare travel scheduling and some miserable flights back to South Florida.

I also do not like leaving my luggage with the hotel clerk/front desk in SJO (although the SL was great about it the day of the Anniversary Party).

I have a cure for #2... DON'T. Check into a cheaper hotel for the night. Say Castillo.

Or have a REALLY late checkout, like 4pm... pay the 1/2 price for the extra half day... Then you even have a place to stay!

Possibly you should quit posting about everything since you have such a negative attitude about most everything.

I think I have played nice in this thread my amigo.

For Gringobill I would respectfully suggest he read this quote from another thread and follow the advice given there

With all due respect for CRT's postcount king, who I have not personally had the pleasure of meeting:

Irish Drifter,

Come clean. You're a SPIRIT basher!

For some reason you are particularly interested in posting negative information on an airline you have never personally flown. While this, of course, does not disqualify you from voicing your opinion, I am curious as to why you feel the need to push the "SPIRIT Airlines SUCKS" issue over and over again.

Two other threads you intiated, in the last few months, which were essentally the same as this current one:

July 16,2007 More on Spirit Airlines customer "service" author: Irish Drifter

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... ght=spirit

Aug 06, 2007 More Woes For Spirit Airlines...author: Irish Drifter

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... ght=spirit

In addition to these you have authored, you have chimed in on various other Spirit related posts, usually in a derogatory way. The negativity appears to me to be unusually excessive, and thus, yes, I "perceive" you as a Spirit basher.

I DO agree with everything you say here:

However the point has been made...over and over again.

Personally I have flown Spirit for a very long time, and they have always been the butt of jokes referring to them as a schlock 2nd rate airline. They still are. IMHO they won't change this business model, as apparently those running the show think this is the way to go. Having said that, other than a recent long wait at FLL (which prompted me to initiate my own negative Spirit post) I have never had a deal breaking shitty experience on Spirit. I have had such an experience on other airlines.

I am one of those guys who has made the decision to fly with them them because I see the value in trading an increased potential for inconvenience for:

1. their low pricing

2. the ability to make last minute bookings at decent fares

3. the convenience of FLL over MIA

4. the liberal freqeunt flyer program (which by the way will take me by direct flight MIA- LIM over the holidays "big frontseat" for 60k miles and 30 bucks) :D :D

Of course things could change for the worse and then I'll need to re-evaluate this position. I'm sure I can count on ID to let us know if and when they do. :)

Thank you puling up those old threads as they certainly emphasis the point of just how bad Spirit Airlines is when it comes to customer service.. To bad you did not include the one where the CEO told one of his customer service VIP's to go tell the couple who they screwed over to go Phuck themselves because they had shown what cheapskates they were by flying Spirit to begin with. (yes, I know I paraphrased but I am to lazy to chase down the original post  )

Guess we have diffrent definitions of bashing. I consider posting news articles and postings on other boards that describe peoples actual experience, with Spirit or some other entity, is distribution of information that a reasonable person might want to have before making a decision on whether to buy their product or instead purchase a competitors. It is called an "informed consumer". Bashing would be posting information that is pure opinion not substantiated by any evidence.

I am glad you have had good results with your flights using Spirit and certainly hope your good fortune continues. For my part I will continue to post any information I come across about Spirit or any other service provider who consistently makes the news in a negative fashion. I call that sharing information.
